This is the 2008 version. The Windows download runs on XP and above, and is a 58 MB file. No .docx and no .xlsx support though.

why not use OpenOffice which does support Office 2007 files?

Basically they (SoftMaker) is trying to think a good cause for you to download their older office suite (SoftMaker Office 2008, where the current one is 2010). Their 2010 version does support MS Office 2007 files — so they are probably hoping once you are hooked to 2008 you'll upgrade to a paid version.

OpenOffice supports reading MS Office 2007 files but not writing to them. Go-OO/LibreOffice supports writing DOCX/XLSX etc but very buggy I found. Even reading can be quite problematic sometimes…
