If only this has dual outlets

    • +1

      add your own adapter?

      • I mean dual as in, one controller can control two outlets

        • oh

        • You can add a Pope or a Holman double adapter but not sure how efficient this is going to be.

    • +1

Meh… for the price just get 2. Compared to the $30 wired units that would need a relay + cabling run it's not bad.

    • +1

      You can always buy two

  • What kind of security does it have to stop Russian Hackers?

OP stated bluetooth range for the product is 10m, Russia is close to 10,000 km away. That's probably good enough

  • Wifi as well would be cool, can't believe there's no Xiaomi version

    Gee thanks Bunnings :|

    "Power Source: Battery"…… so… AA? 12V? Potato?!

pretty sure this the same one:

    AA

Maybe it's a mini hydroelectric system that charges itself?
About to embark on a sprinkler install, might be an option over tapping into the system out the front…

So… the benefit of bluetooth is to save you walking the last 10m to the timer?

Wifi would be so much better… water the garden, fill up the dogs bowl or top up the pool from work, overseas, etc.

    • Watering the garden via pop up sprinklers/dribblers etc is the most likely use, but rather than having to connect from work/overseas to do so you simply set up a program that it does this automatically every morning or whatever for X amount of time.

      • +3

Yeah but any programmable tap timer will do that. My point was, what is the benefit of having bluetooth? Wifi would allow you to control the system manually from wherever you are, if you need to, regardless of what you have pre-programmed. Bluetooth allows you to control it from 10m away, which is basically pointless.

        • Most you would program on the tap timer itself where this one lets you do so from your phone - it may also allow for extra functionality that the others don't have (multiple programs per day, using a weather API to disable watering if rain is expected within X days). If you really want a WIFI one then buy a WIFI one, but I don't think you'll find that for $29.

Your other use cases could be quite easily handled by this anyway - water the garden well yeah you just set up a schedule, fill up the dogs bowl just put it under the tap or have the hose directed into it and set up a schedule or two to top it up for 30 sec once a day (or more regularly during summer), filling up the pool you're going to be running the hose to it anyway so just set the timer to go on for however long you think it needs (hell the last one could be handled by a cheaper analogue timer). Yeah you might waste an extra few dollars a year on unnecessarily filling up the dogs bowl or slightly overfilling the pool, but you'll save over $100 getting a bluetooth timer over a WIFI one.

  • How do these things plug in? Like the Male connector on the bottom, sure that's normal… But how does that threaded top connect into an hose?

    • +3

      Top connects to the tap

      • Legend, thank you.

  • So this is saving me 10 steps? Pretty pointless really

    • It's programmable, so likely intended for pop up sprinklers and the likes - you set up your program (water for X minutes every morning) and don't need to do anything else. Turning it on/off via bluetooth is just an override so if you connect up a hose to it you only need to unplug the sprinkler system, not completely remove this from your tap.

      • But again, most regular tap timers will perform these functions. What's the benefit of the bluetooth?

        • Most timers are usually 24hrs - being bluetooth I assume this could somehow be connected to something with smarts like IFTTT. So you could do something like "If the weather today is above 30 degrees don't water during the day, but do a bunch in the morning" and "if the day is 20, do a bunch of 5 minute bursts" or whatever's optimal.

@superroach: That would be pretty cool and definitely the main (only) benefit of a bluetooth watering system. I wonder if this sort of functionality is built into their app?

  • Make your own with an esp8266 module?

Will the cost of everything, including the solenoid, tap and hose fittings, and weatherproof housing, be much cheaper than $29?

  • I haven't used this item in particular but my experience with this Aqua brand is always been negative.

  • What is the Android App for this Please ???
