  • and after the 1 year comes around - need to renew and purchase?

    • Yes you will, as with most anti-virus/spyware software they are on a subscription basis. Still you can use the free version when the "pro" version runs out.

      • I use MSE and for me that is completely free.

  • Great find, thanks for posting!!

Good find. Not a bad back up program to have.

Bit later - Actually looking at what it does (I haven't kept track of this for a while), I'm not so sure it is such a good idea. The Pro version is a proper 'run in the background' type security program, but it doesn't have all the features you'd want (which are in the next version up). I was thinking it'd be good as another antispyware program as well as my usual full suite. But since it is a full program it's not a good idea to run it and my usual one. Maybe it can be set to not run all the time (just when I want it).

Bit later again - It does turn off the File Watch component because I have another AV suite. So maybe it's OK.

I didn't need to install any versions prior to the Pro version..
I didn't have a cnet account, so let it use my facebook details.. Went through the checkout, at the end it sent me an email with my lavasoft account details.. Logged into Lavasoft with my emailed details. Changed the password. Then went to Licences, and got them to email me the licence. Then went to Downloads and downloaded the Pro version, all 125mb of it.. Installed it, rebooted and copy/pasted my serial number .. All done..

    • how long did the email take? I've been waiting 1 hour?

  • I'm suprised they try and sneak in the google toolbar, i find this so annoying that so many programs these days try and hide it in the install process.

If you want to make your life easier, waste less time and have the hassle of toolbars, subscriptions and all that crap, use ninite.com.

      • +1

sorry, I meant, "not have the hassle". And yes, I do realise paid apps aren't included on ninite.

I used to have the free version and thought it was pretty good until I recently uninstalled it and realised it was the main cause my laptop was sluggish and slow! Not saying it's not a good program, but I think it does take up quite a bit of memory, so those with slower systems might reconsider installing this.

PS: Not tagged as a freebie?

I used to be fan of LavaSoft back in the mid 2000s but changed after they started bundling things and going overboard. Spybot S&D FTW - may not look nice but it does the job (& free!)!

      • +1 S&D. HitMan Pro when you get something nasty

If you need a resident scanner to prevent spyware/malware you should spend money enrolling in a 'how to use a computer online' class.

      • I agree, Spybot seems to be able to takeover Ad aware just fine :)

  • CNET website sucks.
I tried to join but it says my fill in email address already in use.
Then I click forgot password, it says there is no record of my email address.
    Really sucks.

    • Are you sure it was your email addy and not your username that was already in use ?

I did exactly above and got same result.. until I realised the create new account page was saying my username was a dupe, not my email addy.

  • Bloatware…….

5.5 hrs later its still scanning.. Scanned 710,000+ objects with no end in sight.. then again, I do have 1+ TB of steam games.. lol

  • So is this worth the bother to download?

  • i login using the same account and can get it another licence for free. I'll use it for my friends.

    • Well, i think CCleaner is better! has more functions.

      • +1

Wait, this is an antimalware program. CCleaner has a different function where it is a temporary file cleaner and registry fixer tool.

I clicked the Buy it now button 4 times and it generated 4 different keys.

So yeah, even with a single Cnet login, you can get as many keys as you want.

AdAware - it sounds alot like ad-ware to me…I think I prefer Malaware or Spyaware. lol.
AVG is da king of free. PASS.

    • Opinions arent a valid reason to neg a deal! I'm neg number 2'if that helps
      your day somehow:)

    • +1

AVG is an antivirus, not a dedicated spyware/malware remover.

Still, I prefer MBAM to this (AdAware) when it comes to detection rates and on demand scan speeds.
