DVD Recorders with HDD

I'm looking for a DVD recorder for my mum. She current has a Sony Bravia 32" with a matching Sony SD recorder that has a single tuner and I think a 120 gig hdd in it. It works well with the DVD remote controlling both devices.

She now also has a series 5 Samsung 32" thats 1080p, so I'm wondering what recorders are good. Looking for twin tuner, 500 gig drive, 1080p. I have no experience with Samsung peripherals, so if they are good I'm happy with a Samsung but if not, also happy to get a different brand and invest in a universal remote.

Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?

Also, not sure if this should be in the Find-me-a-bargain forum - please move if so.

    Correct me if im wrong, but she records TV to DVD and Hard disk (both of which are contained within the dvd player). Imo split the two up, grab something like a media player, with dual tv tuners. A product i had in mind was something like this has dual tv tuners and a optional hard drive. the only downside is the firmware is a little buggy (users on ocau have been submitting feedback and the op has been passing on complaints/suggestions to the manufacturers who have been releasing updates promptly)

    Unless shes recording off the dvd, imo it sounds pretty redundant. Everything can record onto the hdd, and the dvd player can be an input device.

    OP your posting isn't very clear. Are you looking for a HD recorder that can also burn DVDs with programs that she wants to save from HD? There are lots of makes on the market, but the requirement of twin tuners will narrow the models down. That recorder can also play pressed DVDs of course, so it will do everything. I know the Panasonic models also have a section of the remote that can be programmed to control the TV.

    An added complication is whether you might want a Bluray burner instead of a DVD burner for extra cost. This will allow her to play BR discs.

    For the people who are thinking of media recorders, these PVRs are intended for people who don't want to futz with DVD authoring and burning programs on a computer. They provide everything needed to make a playable DVD you can take to any standard player.
