Help Me Choose a Dishwasher Westinghouse or Bosch

Hi All,
Please help me choose a dishwasher.

Bosch SMS40E08AU ~$750

Westinghouse WSF6606X ~$700

Did lot of research but still confused.
Small family of 3.
Max use once a day.
Any other brand or model recommendations welcome.
Happy to spend $100-$150 extra if getting something really good in that price range.
Need something more reliable and better quality.

  • The first one you list is at good guys for $645 https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/bosch-stainless-steel-freesta… 3.5star WELS and 3 Star energy. The lower end Bosch are made in turkey as opposed to the high ended which are made in Germany. The base inside is made of plastic instead of steel. May retain smells more?

The second one you list is $644 also at good guys https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/westinghouse-stainless-steel-… has 4.5 Star WELS, still 3 Star energy.

They both have fairly positive reviews.

Edited to add: we very recently bought a Bosch https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/bosch-stainless-steel-freesta… at their VIP night where it was a further 10% off so it was $808.20. I liked that it had the additional pull out cutlery draw at the top leaving more room at the bottom for plates or whatever. This also has the plastic bottom interior. Might sound like I am a rep for the good guys but we were lucky enough to win $1000 voucher so my experience is with their store. I also like the 120% price match within 30 day’s.

  • Our extended family bought 3 Bosch dishwashers several years ago. 2 of the 3 developed water pump issues just after the warranted period. Look up Bosch error e18 on google. It is very common and their care factor is close to zero.

I would never buy a Bosch dishwasher again. We replaced it with a Westinghouse, it works well, cost is less, it is not noisy.
We have only had it for a year but all good so far.

    • Thanks did u buy Westinghouse listed in the post?

    • Further to that, we have a Bosch. We've had it for about 6 years now and I love it, it brings me a moment of joy every time I turn it on as I remember all the time I used to spend washing those dishes. Ours has fairly heavy use, usually running once a day, often 2 or 3 times on a Sunday when we are doing lots of cooking.

Not too long after the warranty period ended, maybe 6 months (long enough not to get anywhere contesting it) it developed a fault with the detergent drawer. It was either not opening at all, or opening too late in the cycle, leaving dishes unwashed or covered in detergent. Bosch cared not and the replacement part plus labour came at a startling cost (labour I accept, the small plastic drawer was very expensive). I can't recall how much, but if I had to guess, I would say upwards of $300 all up. I was unimpressed and the experience left an unpleasant taste.

I should add that now, however many years on, it seems to be haphazardly experiencing the same issue. Sometimes there is a half dissolved tablet in the detergent drawer and the dishes are slimey, needing another wash cycle.

I've never had any other make of dishwasher so I have nothing to compare it to, but I'd be very cautious about buying another Bosch.

  • Yes, it was that model

  • If you can stretch your budget a little more than $900 (including you additional $150), I have seen the Bosch 8 serie go for $1100 on a good day.
This one is made in Germany and has good reviews.

Buy once and buy properly. I'm sure we haven't got time chasing Manufactures for warranty repairs.

    • Bosch SMS880TI01A

    Cheers

    • OK, youve got my attention - where can I get one for 1100??

  • +1

F&P dish drawer. Worth the extra money for two drawers and not having two steps to open door & slide drawer. Had a Samsung standard dishwasher and replaced it with F&P. Far superior.

    • We moved into a house with a dish drawer. It lasted about 6 months and I replaced it with a normal dishwasher. Hated it.

For a family of 5 was Forever emptying or filling one or the other. Seemed to not fit very much in either drawer, our big plates could only fit in one spot so limited where you could put pots etc. If a piece of cutlery or something fell through the rack you had to unpack almost everything to retrieve it.

  • I would go for the Bosch in that range.
If you were to extend your budget to about 1000 or 1100, I would highly recommend a Siemens.

  • Could u advice why Siemens and which model please?

    • Sorry never saw your comment earlier. Ours is an. Old. Siemens model. They are mostly made in Germany, come with much longer standard warranty than other brands, are better build and much sturdier trays inside. Also I love the cutlery top drawer as it makes it more spacious and easier to load /unload. (although I. Saw some Bosch models also have the cutlery drawer design.). We saw the Bosch and the Siemens models side by side instore at Winning Appliances and for similar price and the Siemens stood out as better.

  • I think we got the model that was recommended in an old choice magazine tests.
