My partner and I are getting a puppy in a few weeks! Does anyone have a puppy group class recommendation on the weekends in the Malvern/Chadstone area? Happy to travel a short reasonable distance/surrounding suburbs.
At what age is it appropriate to send them to puppy school?
We were planning to bring him home at 8 weeks but I have also heard it's better to pick him up closer to 12 weeks to socialise with his parents/siblings. Thoughts?

Boroondara training at Hays paddock in Kew was excellent.(i know it’s a bit of a drive)
As for how old to bring your new friend home, it depends.
8 weeks is fine but if you want he/she to have some more time with his/her Mum then 12 is also ok. I don’t think there will be much socialising with it’s siblings as most go around the 8 week mark.

I take it he is your only dog? Is someone going to be home often, if not you might need to think about what to do when you aren’t there to stop him being lonely and/or distructive.
We joined the Doberman and dog obedience club, they are based at Electra Reserve in Ashwood https://www.ddoclub.com/, great club for new dog owners, costs are $50/year (family membership) and $2/week for training. Don't bother with puppy preschool, but make sure your new pup is fully vaccinated before joining up. They cater for all levels and all breeds.
8 weeks is the minimum
Many Vets run puppy classes - maybe call your locals
Take every opportunity to socialise your pup asap - coffee shops, outside schools etc.
Avoid dog parks until fully vaccinated
