Play as Marcus Holloway, a brilliant young hacker living in the birthplace of the tech revolution, the San Francisco Bay Area. Team up with DedSec, a notorious group of hackers, and expose the hidden dangers of ctOS 2.0, which, in the hands of corrupt corporations, is being wrongfully used to monitor and manipulate citizens on a massive scale.

With the power of hacking and DedSec by your side, launch the Hack of the Century, take down ctOS 2.0 and give freedom back to whom it belongs: the people.

  • How's the online play for Watch Dogs 2?

    • Didn't play online but the single player was not that enjoyable.

      • Really has great rating on gs and ign

        • Just was not engaging enough for me - I thought I would like it more even after watching a few seasons of mr robot. It had some good elements and San Francisco was interesting but just found it overall fairly boring, the story a bit average and the characters unrelatable.

        • @ruddiger7:
Agree, found it hard to push myself to complete it. It's weird because it isn't a bad game but just not as gripping as I would have hoped. Also the guy with the mask, man take that $#€T off! And yet everybody just cool with it. I get it though, game wasn't taking itself seriously anyways..

      Interesting to say the least.

One game mode includes random players joining (or "hacking into") your free-roam game and try to arrest you, and vice versa. It's a surreal experience. There's also your usual co-op missions and races too IIRC.

      • Nice. And how about online connection? Any lag? Is there also random matchmaking of any sought (for online side missions etc)? I enjoy games with sone sought of end game content.

Meh, not that great of a game, like most things Ubisoft releases these days

Personally i'm enjoying or loving every Ubisoft game I touch.

I really dig the Assassins Creed games, Far Cry 4 & Primal are great. The Division is good in some regards, just a bit too grindy and tough for me, but I certainly respect the game. Watchdogs 2 is great, or at least very good. The Crew was a bit ho hum. The Crew 2 looks better though.

Luckily I still have AC Origins and Rogue to look forward to, as well as Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six, and I could have easily avoided both of those but I think i'll get them now that I've confirmed to myself that I like so many Ubisoft games. And of course Far Cry 5, i'm going to love that.

I'd have to say Ubisoft are a very impressive third person developer in my opinion. I think it's fair to argue that their games don't quite reach true greatness. AC isn't as good as, for example, Uncharted games. Far Cry hasn't yet been quite as good as it could be, although it is very good. There's definitely room from improvement, but they do improve and all the games get to a high level of quality IMO.

I was getting pretty sick of the AC series and thought that Unity was a huge disappointment. However I recently played Rogue and then Origins and thought they were both pretty enjoyable. Origins is a breath of fresh air, although I can see how it would not be for everyone.

        • I had zero issue with Unity. I bought it for $15 after it had been fully patched. I liked it as much as Black Flag and Syndicate.

I got the Ezio Collection and played and enjoyed AC 2. I'd previously only gotten half way through on the PS3.

I'm looking forward to playing the other 2 games on the Ezio collection, but i'm going to play some other games before hand to spread them out a little.

I've enjoyed every AC game i've played and I know i'll love Origins for sure, but I might as well wait for it to drop in price and get bundled with DLC.

        • @davedrastic: With Unity it was more that it was more of the same rather than a huge game changer like Black Flag - they went from the unique sea adventure to back to the city of the earlier titles. Again, it wasn't necessarily a bad game, it just felt like a huge missed opportunity.

Good idea to spread them out haha.

        • @ilikeradiohead: I loved Black Flag for sure, but as you say, Unity was a fine game. And very beautiful. It didnt push the game forward, in the same way Syndicate didn't.

I'm in the same boat, I've really enjoyed Ubi games lately. I got Wildlands and have been loving the hell out of it playing solo, it's like a serious Farcry game with an excellent (albeit repetitive) gameplay loop and great writing. If you like taking down the outposts in Farcry without being detected, Wildlands is that times 1000.

Farcry 5 is really, really good! I was up late playing last night and the atmosphere and graphics are a big leap forward for the series. The sound design is fantastic too.

        • Yeah. Wildlands is $25 at Target. I think i'll clear my small backlog and then pick it up. I don't mind getting a game for around $20 and not liking it, but I'm pretty sure there's a good chance i'll be into Wildlands. I'll be doing the solo campaign.

Far Cry 5 will be one of my favourite games this generation, I know it. Primal was a blast. Far Cry 4 is almost great, but not quite there - the driving wasn't fun, and it should have been. FC5 seems like it has a bit more senseless action in it, which is exactly what I want. Fun games. Can't wait. But yeah i'll wait for a price drop, although I feel guilty because it seems one of the few games that are worth the $69 price.

I just finished the game yesterday.

    I really liked it.

It's a total GTA clone, with excellent graphics, very crisp and it's own "hacking" mechanic which I personally enjoyed - nice little puzzle type thing which at no point was too difficult. It nearly was too difficult but nicely challenging.

The driving is mostly awful. There's 1 or 2 sports cars and 1 motorbike which goes at a good speed but most vehicles are absurdly slow - they stuffed the driving up for that reason alone, regrettably, IMO.

The third person action is solid. Learning the specific hacking options / mechanics can be a little daunting at first, but not for long and generally the stealth works well up to a point and then it's the usual gun em down fest - which worked well - had a good level of difficulty. Arguably a little easy, but not so much.

I enjoyed the story, but the story and characters are generally criticised for being cliched and bland. Personally i didn't think that. Personally I thought the facial animation was excellent, the voice acting was good and I could appreciate the art style of the hacking team of protagonists, but (for me) most importantly the subject matter of the main story line could not have been more relevant - it's all about major Social Media tech companies infringing on peoples privacy. Spot on.

I didn't do any side missions and only ended up within online missions briefly a couple of times, but it seems a little GTA-ish (although i've barely touched GTA online). You get to muck around with a random player, usual kind of thing.

So personally I would recommend this game, almost highly. At this price i'd recommend it highly. It's not as varied, stylish or in depth as GTA but it certainly comes close to matching the game.

I played Mafia 3 just before Watchdogs 2 and as much as I loved Mafia 3 (despite its issues) you have to say that Watchdogs 2 is a more solid, better put together game.

  • I am hesitant to buy this as Watch Dogs was the single biggest disappointment of my life (it wasn't a bad game per se, it just wasn't what it was marketed as, plus there was a disjoint between the persona of the vigilante standing up for what is right vs the killing sprees you go on in the game). I'll probs just get it though because it's cheap and probably ok.

    • I didn't play the first Watch Dogs. My understanding is that there's no continuation of the story, character, theme or mood - just that they're both open world third person shooter / stealth games with hacking mechanics. Other than that they're completely different, i believe.

I'm fairly keen to give the first Watch Dogs a go now that I enjoyed the 2nd one. Maybe it will be a PS+ game, or under $10 or so.

Like I say, i'd highly recommend the game at this low price. It's a proper game, no bugs, some unique mechanics. It's not a MUST HAVE given it's not as good as GTA, but it's definitely solid and enjoyable.
