Sharon Stone … sex symbol, celebrity, fashion icon, movie star
Senne Berges is a struggling fashion designer who's given up on finding the love of her life. Despite attempts by her best friend and overbearing mother to get her to settle down, Senna continues to follow a path of irresponsible behavior. Everything in her life is out of control until the night of her 46th birthday when she meets Adam. Could this handsome lawyer be her soul mate at last? Will she finally be able to get her life on track?
A Little Something For Your Birthday stars Academy Award nominee & Golden Globe winner Sharon Stone, who is also a producer of the film. 'I really loved the script. I thought that it was very funny, and very tender and very real" said Stone. After initially reading the script with an offer to play the role of Senna's mother, she thought that it was far more compelling to tell the story if the daughter was middle-aged. Stone says, 'We are in this period where people are starting new lives in middle-age. They are thinking, what are we going to do with the second half, what's going to happen in my second act?" Stone says it makes A Little Something For Your Birthday a different kind of movie. 'It's a second act romantic comedy".
Stone, who turns 60 in March, said of playing the character of Senna, 'I see a lot of myself in this part. You'll identify with this movie if you have a family, or a mum, or you've ever let yourself down, or wanted something and had a hard time getting it. I think Senna is in all of us and it's just a delightful character to play. She's awkward and refined, all at the same time.
The all-star cast is rounded out by Academy Award winner Ellen Burstyn, most recently seen in TVs House of Cards, Famke Janssen, and Tony Goldwyn, from TVs hit series Scandal. Goldwyn commented that he felt the movie told an important story for women. He said, 'Some women feel like there is such an emphasis on youth & being younger & there is sort of a pressure to try to pretend to be younger than you are. But the truth is there is tremendous freedom in embracing who you are & where you are in your life. And when you open yourself up to that, the universe tends to reward you".
At the helm of the production is debut writer / director Susan Walter, who said it took 12 years after finishing the script, which made the 2008 Black List, to get any momentum on making the film. As soon as Sharon came on board as a Producer the film took 4 months to get off the ground. Walter said of working with Sharon Stone, 'She is a marvel. She is fierce, she is detail oriented, she is hilarious. She is technically flawless."
Walter said the theme of the film 'is about looking fear in the eye and saying that just because I was all o those things up to this point, doesn't mean I need to be the things that held me back going forward. You can start over whenever. You can start over at any age". She believes that Hollywood focuses romantic movies too heavily on characters at their youngest, and freshest, and prettiest. But feels that, 'we are at our most interesting after we've lived a little, and these are characters who have lived a little. It's a movie for everybody, it just happens to feature characters of that certain age" said Walter.
