Please Avoid BatteryFort.com.au

Hello,

I am making this topic so that if anyone searches for this business in the future they will hopefully see this topic and know to avoid BatteryFort. I don't really require any help, sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.

I ordered a replacement Macbook pro charger from Battery Fort after finding them on google shopping. I will list my problems with them.

  • I thought it was an Australian business as they have a .com.au website and an Adelaide address listed on the website. However, the charger shipped from America.
  • The 'fast and daily' shipping took 20 days to reach me.
  • The charger does not have an Australian socket
  • The charger does not meet Australian standards
  • I was never emailed an invoice or receipt. I only received one SMS from them when I placed the order.

Batteryfort have 80 out of 80 bad reviews on Trustpilot. I wish I had checked before I made the order.

I sent them an email today. I will now wait a couple of days before asking my bank for a chargeback. Hopefully, I get the money back but its a huge pain in the arse.

edited. I had a brain fart with watts and Volts

If they actually sent you something then they aren't really a scam, just set up by a stupid person who didn't realise Australians have a different plug type. If it is one of the chargers that comes apart in two pieces you could probably find someone with a broken one where it is the connector to the computer that is broken not the plug half, and attach your (hopefully) working connector part to their plug part. If you get a refund then you could get a working charger for as little as it would cost to buy a broken one.

  • Also known as "Charger Co", been trading since 2016

So perhaps not a scam website, but just dropshipping and not really giving you the full details. In any case, it's not legal to sell something without an invoice.

Unlikely to be a total scam as the trader co-ownes a popular restaurant in Glen Waverly (VIC), and both businesses share the same mailing address. Not sure why their address says Adelaide. All info points to it being VIC based. All in all, looks like a pretty weird setup. The website is almost identical to the US version, but with the address changed. So some guy who lives in Melbourne, runs an Australian version of a US business from an Adelaide office. Claims to keep items in stock here in Australia, but seems unlikely based on your evidence.

The listed contact number would have been the first clue they are not solely a company located within australia.

  • was it a magsafe 1 charger?
    genuine?
    or after market?

    have a read

  • It looks like a dropshipping site. They could be based anywhere but just make it look like they are based in Australia.

Here is a good podcast episode about dropshipping.

Snorky is right. This is pretty much a scam, and they are doing the same in Canada and UK. STAY AWAT AT ALL COSTS. Their website is a .com.au, and lists an Australian address in SA. but they ship from US. They advertise genuine apple charger but ship fake product with US pin. The Australian email addresses they give are fake and bounce back. I reckon they have a heap of poor quality/faulty knock-offs they got cheap to offload and don't care…will just keep going as long as they can. Clearly they know what they are doing, giving the impression they are Australian based and claiming product is genuine, so a bunch of thieves really. If the co-owner really does own a restaurant in Glen Waverly as djsweet reckons, sure would like some more details…
