I bought a replacement battery off eBay and surprise surprise it's a fake, again! There was a sticker on the Samsung brand just to confirm it's a fake!
Where do you buy your replacement batteries from?
It should be quite common to need replacement battery given they only last two years or a bit less.
I am worried that they might explode! Battery is one thing that I would be very careful about. It can cause fire or harm.

I had what i thought was genuine, fake Note 3 battery (there's videos how to tell fakes) and it worked fine, but i understand why you want to be cautious

Not Note 5!!! That was Note 7.
What i did with my lg g3 was get a third party battery from a reputable brand (e.g anker or akku) on ebay because theyre way less likely to be faked than the official OEM battery
G3 has replaceable battery so there are good brands for it. Also when I changed my G3 battery it told me it's not genuine which is very useful. Note 5 is different. It's hard to replace battery just to find out the new is worse than the one it's replacing.
Were you going to change the battery yourself of get someone to do it as the back is sealed?
Do you mind me asking you how much did you pay for the battery?
I am just trying to ascertain is it worth to change the battery or just get the Note 8 eventually when it drops to around $800.
I am also noticing that the Note 5 is slowing down after the updates (surprising! LOL)

I paid $15. There are some for $35, not sure if they are genuine. I had note 8 but returned it due to mic issues. It's easy to change battery. I have done it myself previously. You have to open the back carefully.

I look at feedback for the product as the best guide for the capacity/reliability of the battery.
I'm not phased if it is fake, as long as it works.
those "gold" batteries with extra high capacity are fake capacity.
