WARNING ON ANDROID TABLETS

Our Chinese friends are spamming OzBargain with ‘dubious’ tactics promoting android products.

  1. When companies like this do that would you trust them to treat you a consumer with any respect.
  2. Just because a product is advertised as ‘Android’, doesnt mean its a good Android product. Android is open source (including the name/logo) meaning we will see more of this junk. Unfortunately products like this will just give Android a bad name, and eventually damage the brand.
  3. The latest trick is to link banned websites via some intermediate overseas referral site. If the poster was genuine they would just link you to the real site, so question this tactic right away.

Help us stop these opportunists, they are trying to con the OzBargain community with their dubious marketing techniques and products. The products sold are of poor quality, despite what they’re claiming

Report these posts to the mods straight away, that way we protect other members here from falling into these shonks clutches.

They have been spamming and we have been banning these fellows for months. DONT trust them for any deal. Even if you are not sure - report it, the mods have tools to check and we can use those effectively. If they are legit we will let the deal stand, so these is no issue with reporting. it just assists us in discovering these crooks

EDIT: Davo's post from below

  • Thanks Ozpete. I suggest banning any links outright to these referral websites — it'd make moderating much easier.

    • We have, however they use other sites, or re-mirror their own site under a different domain name.

  • While a bit of warning is always good, you could be more specific in your claims, e.g.

    1. dubious tactics promoting these android products. What android products are you referring to?
    2. When companies like this… Which company is "this"?

    I, for one, get confused.

    • OK, it's now making a lot more sense to me.

  • we should have like a "Report" count, like 'x' amounts of reports of a particular post and then it should be automatically deleted

  • +1

Those tablet deals were sockpuppet-zergling rushes of the highest order.

Also, lolled hard at this: 你已经向中方报告政府.

"You have already reported to central government."

    • if you can translate something like "go away, you're not welcome" we would appreciate it.

No spam. Plz respect rules of our forum.

    • thankyou :)

  • LOL on the warning on ANDROID tablets :P That does make us Android lovers a bit anxious :)

  • I see now why Davo thought I was doing some subtle spamming about Android tablets a while back.

Why not make any posts coming from Asian ISP or proxies go through a moderation process?

    • They've got proxies elsewhere. We have legitimate users from those countries.

I've just got emails from their VPN services, hopefully we can shut them down.

EDIT: as far as i can see - i cant spot these android posts you're talking about. Anyway, it doesnt help when companies use overseas VPNs

      • The cheap 3G tablet thread. Perhaps it wasn't you though Davo.

Also I know we have genuine users abroad that's why I suggested moderating the threads and not banning the IP range. Only thing is you might need to bring in a couple more moderators to keep things flowing.
