Sony Alpha A33 DSLR with 18-55mm lens for $829 at Ted's Cameras!!

30

On the website it says $899.99, but you can price match it down to $829 quoting the price from this URL: http://www.digidirect.com.au/slr_cameras/sony/sony_alpha_slt… . This is the cheapest price available from an Australian authorised dealer (not a grey import) meaning it comes with Australian warranty!

Why not buy it from Digidirect you say? You can pick it up in store from your closest Teds store at no extra charge (given they have stock). Plus Sony has a cashback offer, if purchased before January 4, you can get $100 off making it $729.00 (only $50 more expensive than the cheapest grey import)!

  • Good deal

At JB Sony A33Y which includes 18-55mm & 70-200mm lenses also go around $900 mark when they had family & friend sale.
that includes 15% off & $100 cashback. If you're going overseas within 30 days you can claim GST back at the airport.
(when you buy more than $300 from one Australian shop)
Dunno if this is happening any time soon

sorry, this is a poor camera and at that price there are many better alternatives.
in the DSLR world being stuck on the Sony brand is the worst you can do. No accessories of any sort work with Sony crap, and they have very poor SNR even vs brands using the same Sony fabbed sensor!

    • is your neg because of the camera or price?

    • while I've negged your comment i haven't negged your neg. fair enough you don't think the camera is a bargain at at this price (or any price, as its a sony)

however, speaking from experience, as an owner of one of there first DSLRs A350, i'm pretty happy with it… I believe they are a pretty good entry level camera at a good price point.

as far as accessories go, i have a remote, flash, stand, 2 lenses, 18-55, 55-300, bag, multiple cf cards, a battery grip (holds two batteries)

seems fine to me for a beginner camera. with the full HD recording on this camera i'd love to upgrade and use my current accessories with it… build in IS is also good, means you don't have to pay double for the lenses!

PS id still rather a grey import of the a55 for 895 landed:
      http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Sony-Alpha-SLT-A55-A55V-kit-18-55mm-/…

local stores are a bit of a rip off, i mean really, is a warantee worth 4-500 dollars, postage back over seas is only 30-40 dollars after all…

The reviews state this has equal image quality to the EOS 550D, the kit lens is better than Canon's 18-55mm and an AF sytem akin to the EOS 7D, at $729 I don't think you can get better.

      You're twisted seriously.
Sony is getting better and you didn't mention anything about the camera
Talk about accessories? Man this is an entry model camera.

All other cameras using Sony sensor are high-end crop versions which are more expensive.

Their tuning of the sensor make them more superior & more EXPENSIVE.
If you're gonna talk about performance, talk about the price
      I mean you can't compare Canon D40 & Nikon D700.

Besides if you don't like it don't bother.
I love how Sony has a good performance to its price

Besides, inbuilt Optical Stabiliser (Sony Steady Shot) in its body
so that you can use it with any a-mount lenses.

Its Noise Reduction performance got heaps better.

You sound like a kid who loves Pokemon so much, you wouldn't give crap about Yu-gi-oh (however it's spelled)
I'm referring to anime as you sound like a little kid.

      • Thankyou kazines

    • furyyou,

Did you do any research into this product which is technically an SLT not an SLR.

This response screams typical CaNikon fanboy who just has to bag the competition because you don't understand it.

Every brand has a base model. Does your brand base model shoot at 7fps with continuous autofocus and also autofocus in movie mode. Probably not.

This is a decent price for a decent camera.

Interesting that Ted's Camera is publicly willing to price match digidirect.

Early this year, I had requested a price match on a lens with JB Hi-Fi/Harvey Norman price in a printed catalogue and the guy at Ted's Pitt St. store very rudely told me that I could choose to buy my lens either from the "salesmen" (referring to JB/HN) or from the photography people (referring to themselves). And gave me a lecture on the warranty considerations on purchases from them vs from JB/HN.

Needless to say, the rudeness put me off. Besides, I didn't see any willingness to even attempt to price match.

Oh! BTW… "happyhappycheese" welcome to OzB. I see that this is your first post. And even "Teds Cameras" rep chipped in to add his/her two cents here.

Should I try to connect the dots? Or is the business getting that bad at Ted's that now they are willing to match an online price?

    • "that I could choose to buy my lens either from the “salesmen” (referring to JB/HN) or from the photography people (referring to themselves)."

The person I was dealing with at our local Teds admitted not even owning a camera and borrowing when he needed one. And, whilst he was prepared to do a deal on a D7000, his boss (via phonecall) overrode the deal and wouldn't budge on price. This was about 3 weeks ago. Just got my D7000 elsewhere, at same price as negotiated, but including an additional lens (55-300mm). Nikon Aust dealer.

      • May I ask where and for how much? I'm looking into several cameras myself, and the D7000 is one of my considerations. Thanks!

  • Ted's have an online price match request through the web site, we try to match what we can, sometimes also to grey importers. Sorry to "borealis" re the Syd experience - all stores are able to match and discount at the managers discretion.

  • Digidirect is an authorised retailers for Pentax and I think Nikon as well. The chances are they are not grey imports.

    • Nikon authorised resellers. Right there on the home page.

      • Sorry! Didnt mean to -ve vote you. It was a mistake.
