    • I am Chinese and I live in Shenzhen now.

Sorry! I've been thinking and thinking and thinking but still can't come up with anything to ask you…

    • Hahaha, it's totally okay, basically I just want to say hi to everyone.

      • And sell your products…

  • I live in a regional part of Japan.

What course of action do i take when i come across an exotic ingredient suitable for market?

What is the best way to market a product, without joining a bigger group, so that i can profit and build up a market and export it to a part of the world that will give me the best price and highest demand?

    for example, myrica rubra

    • It's a big question, I need to think about it for a while.

    • So you are a merchant who wants to sell products?
In my opinion, you can try affiliate network, it's easy way to help sell your products. And FB ads is aslo a great way to run your business.
      ちょっとだけ 日本語はできるです。わたし 日本の文化は好きです、あなたようにの 趣味おなじの味方 知りたい。

      • Yes Japan is a good market, and to sell to the chinese market is a goal of mine. Good tip going for the affilated network. of course having a good network in japan is great, but the Japanese tea is superior, and we have no interest in other teas. I have been successful sharing Australian tea in my workplace, but the market here does not like a lot of foreign products. it takes a lot of time and trust to get something here. its better to export from Japan, and there are good opportunities, especially leading up to the olympics and with the influx of tourists. PM me if you want to start a private discussion.

        • Thank you for your sharing! I will surely PM you later :)

        • It seems like I can't PM u…… cause' I am a oversea user.
Well, here is my Email: [email protected] and it's also my Skype ID.
Leave me a message if you like!

        • @Elaine Chan:
im an overseas user too. thats wack. ok

  • Is there much of a market for tea in Oz? Any rough numbers you can share like sales per month? My mom talks about selling tea often.

    • Sorry I can't answer this question, cause' I am new to here too.

      • Ok here is the best tea story I know of in Australia, 10k a week. And the tea is from China. Link

        • Thx, I will read!

    • There's a popular store all over Australia called T2.

      • Thank you! I searched for T2 just now, I think I might be able to learn something from it.

  • Not to get too personal but how do you end up with a name like Elaine Chan? Is Elaine a Chinese name?
I know how this might come across, but it's asked in good faith.

My name is Ying, it pronounce like Elaine a little bit. It's more convenient for people to remember Elaine rather than ChenZhiYing, isn't it?

      • Haha right good point, so you've got like your Chinese name and then your English name so people don't have to remember your (unfamiliar) Chinese name?
Great idea and now that you mention it, I think I've seen quite a few people do this.

        • +1

Hahaha, our Chinese do use English for businese a lot.

      • I can't figure out how that sounds like Elaine?

But since you took the name please learn the speech and dance

Not really like Elaine, but Ying sound like it a little bit. Years ago when I picked my English name for my part-time job, I was not so serious. I like "Daniel" but my boss requested me to pick a girl's name, so I chose "Elaine". Didn't come up with that I will use it for years. A little story about me.

Hahahahahah She makes me laugh asf

        • @Elaine Chan: :) so you will learn the dance?

        • @Slippery Fish: I think I might pass. Lol

        • @Elaine Chan: You have some feminine options around your preferred name. Your boss should be ok with at least a few of them.

In Western context, Elaine does make you sound much older than you likely are.
You can use that as point, in arguing, if needed.

        • @Dne: Okay~

        • @Elaine Chan: ~Ok
No intent to offend. Elaine hasn't been a common Western name since probably the 1940's/50's.

        • @Elaine Chan:
To add, just in case you went off in a huff.

Most Asians who choose a Western first name for work purposes/moved overseas/just easier, are mainly hoping to fit in with a name not out-of-place in any way. I can't think of the last time I met or spoke to a women named Elaine. My Mum, however, is now in her eighties and probably went to school with one or two.

There is nothing wrong at all with choosing older and traditional names (I favour them), but just wanted you to realise your options and that the name chosen is no longer an everyday one, in case you or maybe your boss thought it was. That's all.

          Happy tea sales!

          :-)

        • @Dne: :)

@Dne: Thank you, but I think Elaine is good to me, maybe I will change it someday, but not now.And I am totally okay about your suggestion. Don't worry! :)

      “TeaBay”

    • There are to much merchants on Ebay, it's hardly to recognize which is good and which is bad. So we'd like to create our own brand by our own domain name : puerhpure.com
But it's still under constantly building, so it might seems not so perfect now.

How do you go about determining the quality of teas?

    • Yes, we select our products very carefully and totally guaranteed the quality.

Tea is super subjective, just like selling jade. How do consumers value the goods we receive?

A shop could be selling me 150 rmb for 100g of tea which could only have a street value of 15 rmb. Very hard to tell what is the real deal.

    • Just buy the cheapest on offer….who knows it might be the best, better than the other way round.

    • You need to focus at the origin of tea and don't buy tea from Taobao haha. You can hardly find out which tea is really the best in Taobao.
Buy it from someone who know tea. For example, we learn tea's knowledge and even went to tea garden by ourselves. Not just for selling tea, we are happy to discuss and chat with tea lovers.

    • Oh I add one point here, it's very important to talk to sellers, tea culture need communication, from the talk you can tell who you can trust and who not. When you get to know someone decent, it's very easy to buy real nice deal.

      • Thanks for your reply. Good tip

        • BTW if you are interested in tea or any other products of China, you can just talk to me, you know? Hahahaha

  • What is the most popular tea you sell? Is there a relation to price on what is popular? Do you sell world wide and do you find that different countries have niche tastes distinctive to that area or is it more random/seasonal?

    • I am specialized on puerh tea now. And the most popular tea for these days called [Moonlight White Tea]. It a kind of raw puerh tea, and it is white tea which has fresh and delicate fragrance.
Actually for people who know tea, it is more seasonal. And if you are expert, you must have a preference on your own taste, so it is a kind of individual thing.

  • So how do you determine whether the products you sell are of good quality?
Do you get them to send you samples or do you go and see their manufacturing facility?

    • Most of them will send us samples and take a video, if we request, we can also make a live call, to meet that tea f2f. And in some situations we go to meet the tea-producers by ourselves.

What I sell is not detox tea, it is puerh….. But to be honest, my dad should really reflect on himself!(hahahahha kidding

  • So you stock tea from different brands?
If so how do you get it? You go via a distributor or approach brands individually?

    • Both.

  • Do you enjoy being the tea-bagee, or the tea-bagor?
