Controller suggestions/recommendations for Retro Pi gift

I'm looking for advice on controllers for the RetroPi that I'm sending to my dad overseas. He plays PS1 and Sega Megadrive games and hates analogue sticks, so a decent D-pad is probably the way to go.

I personally use an Xbox 360 controller with mine, but they're kinda pricey and require a bulky receiver to work, plus he wouldn't get on with the proportions/layout of it.

At the moment, I'm thinking a PS2 to USB adapter as it's cheap and I have the controller already and I know he gets on with that.

Any experience with those? Any suggestions other than that?

Cheers,

Andrew

And you better be hurry. Lawsuit incoming.

    • I second this. I have two of these and I highly recommend the SNES Pro.

      • Eh, as I said - Megadrive and PS1 - never had an attachment to the SNES and looks too basic for Playstation games, unfortunately.

        • The Snes Pro has two shoulder buttons and analogue sticks, and they connect very easily via BT to the RetroPie.
It works great for me with PS1 games, but I can imagine the button layout isn't the best for Megadrive.
I use my Snes pro for PC, Switch, and my RetroPie with no problems.

A PS3 controller and bluetooth adapter is what i would recommend.

I have used both Logitech F310(Wired) and F710(Wireless) without any issues

    • Need a receiver for the wireless or is it bluetooth?

It comes with a RF receiver - A small usb dongle which you plug onto the pi.

        • Sold, thanks for your help :)

I'm finding the cheapest for around the $50 mark - that about right?

        • @The Gent:
Yes that sounds right. I paid a bit over $50 for the F710 as it was easier for me to buy it over the counter at CPL in Melbourne.
