How Can I Get My Survey Participants Their Giftcards? I wanted to use Email.

So I am running a survey and I will be giving away 5 giftcards.

As part of my project methodology and ethics I stated that I would be delivering them via email.

The idea was this was less personal than a physical address.

but then I went to Woolworths (the giftcard I intend to use) and when I asked a staff member there, she was puzzled about scanning the card or purchasing it as a digital version. Now I'm wondering if I thought the whole thing through.

How can I actually get them a giftcard without asking for more information.

I thought some giftcards come with numbers as well that can be manually typed?

Worse comes to worst, I will speak with ethics, speak with other members and perhaps contact the winners telling them I may need to post it.

but I would like to be able to keep things as I had initially designed it.

I did a quick search on google and found a thread here and it seems someone struggled with a scanned giftcard. The last thing I want is for the winners to be struggling to claim their prize.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Is there a way via email, or do I need to do this another way. Plan C might even be using another vendor that allows for more digitally friendly giftcards. I would contact the winners beforehand and ask them if a change of vendor was ok.

Which store giftcard do you want to give your participants? Woolworths gift voucher?

This is the eGift card: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/214761
5% off WISH (Woolworths, Big W, Woolworths Petrol etc) eGift Cards through Cashrewards

You can purchase online and send it to your participants as a gift (via email) before checkout.
Your participants will receive codes that can be used online and in-store.

I am more concerned that you're not using this 5% all-time discount at Woolies for your daily groceries when your OzB account is 2 years old…

    • Sounds great, but the giftcards are funded through institutional funds. I don't think it is ethical to 'save' money when I have been awarded the full amount. At least not without disclosing it and returning the difference.

      • Then just buy it at full price from the Woolworths online store?

        • This is not an issue, was just being polite to someone trying to help me out.

when I asked a staff member there, she was puzzled about scanning the card or purchasing it as a digital version

They don't sell them in the stores, so thats why they seemed puzzled. You need to buy them online for the egiftcards.

As for use, you either scan or enter the giftcard numbers at the checkout. Not overly hard. If doing self checkout, there is a button for entering them, if going via a register, the checkout person can do it.

The idea was this was less personal than a physical address.

You could always email the 'winners' and ask them which one they would like. For example, something like

I can email you a egiftcard within the next 24 hours or I can post out a giftcard in the mail, if you prefer after you supply your address. This will take approx 5 days.

    • It seems the main mistake I made was saying Woolworths Essentials instead of WISH. Classic is the physical card and the other option is an ecard. Essentials only allows for classic, while Wish allows for both. I only just realized it now after sussing out brokenenglish's suggestion.

If I use Woolworths Essentials, I will have to mail it out, but if I use Wish I can do either.

I can use your suggestion and give them the option for a physical card or an E wishcard.

It also seems I can get a branded Woolworths E Giftcard. I guess that is pretty much Woolworths Essentials.

      • Ahh yes that will do it. Around these parts we call them WISH giftcards. Hadn't heard the Essentials branding before.

Personally I would learn to the egiftcard as you can get them 5% and no postage ;)

        • I don't know why they created the two to be honest. I think maybe Wish was supposed to evoke a more celebratory feel to it.

I thought essentials was more classic so I nominated that, without realizing there was no egiftcard option.

Then I wasn't even sure if ANY of the giftcards were egiftcards. Hence this thread.

I guess that's what happens when you don't look through a website fully and assume you know.

      • Dude, I'm pretty sure those participants don't care what Woolies 'branded' giftcard it is, as long as it can be used at Woolworths and/or Woolworths associated stores (which WISH gift cards allows).

You're making a simple thing complicated because of 'ethics'?

If participants don't know how to use the eGiftcards, store staff will help them.

I have received gift cards from uni surveys that came from https://www.giftpay.com.au
I think the uni has an account with them and people journal transfer from their research account

You could also just go with an egift card from Woolworths as mentioned above.

    • Thanks for this. I have created an account with giftsender (Which I believe is their other website), since I don't have an ABN. I will decide tomorrow if I will use this. It is great for options.
