Choosing a 2.1 Desktop Setup

Hey guys,

I've been wanting to invest a high-end audio setup for my home PC, seems to be really hard to find good parts in Australia.
I really like bass and Logitech speakers are fairly bad compared to what's out there (from what i've seen online)
I tried following guides online, including /r/Zeos (which many people seem to recommend) the problem is almost all of the
sub woofer options are not available in Australia and have $100+ shipping costs.
I would want at least an 8" sub and the only thing i've found is this:

But I was wondering if you guys know about anything else before I commit to a purchase when it cost so much.

Thanks for any help!

  • Logitech speakers are fairly bad

Are you saying in general or any in particular?

I have been using my Z623s for several years now and love them. They are just amazing for a 2.1 setup.

    • Well I have been through two different types, one of them was the Z623, but I kept blowing the woofer, so I guess I need something with more power so I can be happy with 70%.
In terms of audio accuracy though they are just bad really.

      • but I kept blowing the woofer

Are you using these for personal/gaming use, or for parties?!

        • Just playing music really

    • +1

All logitechs are massproduced garbage, you think they are good cause you have no reference point when you havent heard good speakers before.

      • Do you have another recommendation we should look at?

        • I have aktimates, the AktiMate Mini+ B are pretty amazing, they are 2.0 but you can add a sub to it yourself.

        • @garetz:

          ~$450 setup (minus sub)

Yeah that does give a good reference point to $150 Logitechs (with sub)

        • @Spackbace: you get what you pay for, ive had z680s and z906, even without a sub, the aktimate sounds so much better. The bass isnt as loud, but its much tighter and the lows sound like bass instead of boof boof. Then you can add any subwoofer you want on top of that.

        • @garetz:

Of course you get more if you pay more, that's Purchasing 101. But do you get 3-4x more? That's debatable.

        • @Spackbace: Sound reproduction doesnt improve dollar for dollar on a linear scale, its usually the more you spend the less improvement you get, but there is always better value speakers for each price range. Thats just the nature of the industry.

        • @garetz: can you give an example of a set of speakers that are better value than the Logitech for about the same price?

  • Looks like a good deal, you get the 2 stands practically free, and free postage.

    • Have you used a sound bar on a PC? I have not seen anyone really mention that before.

      • Yes, until recently (moved house, repurposed it). Was great, good sound, and I found the width between L/R to be terrific for sitting at the PC. Positioned it against the wall, behind the monitor (FYI, iMac). Many will place them below or just in front of the screen.
