Bunnings Refused to Price Match Good Guys Because The Price on The Receipt Is Not Advertised on Their Website

Went to Bunnings Hoppers Crossing Vic today to price match an item which I bought from the Good Guys Store few blocks down a few days ago. They were closed so I decided to do my first price match at Bunnings.

"We don't accept receipt as a proof of price" "they have a different listing on their website" "we are not a discounter" - I was told by an older staff when the checkout girl asked…

I didn't complain. Went to OW and they price matched it. Just annoyed because it seems their "we'll beat it by 10% ad" is misleading?? Anyone else with similar experience?

The T&C say that the price is matched for the day that the price guarantee was requested. Was the receipt for the same day? If not then they will go with the online price.

    • Thanks for the info! Didn't know it had to be the same day. It wasn't a sale item, so pretty sure if they could call, it would have been the same price - item not listed on their website. Bunnings didn't bother looking at my receipt, just straight up denied :(

The problem is the price may have been rung up wrong, there may be no more stock or it may have broken one of the other rules. I can feel your pain but I can also see why they would do what they have done.

    They beat any ADVERTISED price.

You don't know what you're talking about.

    • There is no mention of advertised price in their price policy.

I'm not saying a receipt is a valid way to get a price match.

      • Yeah, no mention of advertised price - "It applies where the other retailer’s final price, inclusive of delivery, taxes, fees and charges, is lower than our price" - how else do you prove the retailer's final price other than a receipt? Call "did you just give MrOB the price of $ for item X?"

I can understand why a receipt may not be accepted. There may be membership discount or other type of non-standard discount applied that does not reflect standard selling price.

Normally they would just refer to the website for price matching. You could argue that they should call up the store to confirm price if website is not accurate. To be honest I don't have that expectation.

Interesting. What item can these retailers have in common?

A receipt is not an ad, unless the receipt was advertised online, in the catalogue or shelf price that anyone can get. Nothing misleading except for the post title here.

its misleading s4 s18 s29 ACL. if they say they will price beat and the exceptions are all in the small print then it is misleading. throw in some s21 ACL unconscionable conduct…
