So I got my new telephone book and Yellow pages today. Needless to say that given it’s the year 2018 I threw it straight into the recycling bin.
What’s the point of these books? Does anyone actually use them?

2018 of course…
2017 had been used already.
2019 is for next year. lol
(Spare) toilet paper.
maybe they still distribute for the elderly, but then at that point it should be only available for subscribers
Except that the font is so tiny you need a magnifying glass to read it. Very frustrating for my elderly parents. In Adelaide they included a cheap plastic thing at one stage for this purpose, but it wasn't really functional.
Too easy to type any business name into your phone and have the number before you could even find a telephone book.
I hollowed mine out and used it as an enclosure for my raspberry pi.
The only time I used them was in the time before mobile internet and my ADSL had crashed and I needed to find iiNet’s phone number.
ASIO still needs them to beat upphone book suspects.
To sit on for those vertically challenged?
ive only ever used them to rip appart with my bare hands as a party trick in front of people. youtube it. it amazes people. u just missed a golden opportunity to hulk out
I use mine as a door stop, it works quite well for that.
I use them for paper machie, the thin paper is perfect for moulding into fiddly bits. If I have a device handy, there is no way I'm trawling through a book when so many more options come up with a google search, or even a yellowpages search. Let your fingers do the walking, on the keyboard.
I use them for spit balls particularly aiming at people paying full RRP on stuff
If you're not interested in receiving one each year, you can cancel them online.
Nice one, but how to stop the flood of books that invades my lobby and sits there for months in an apartment complex?
move
The only verification seems to be ticking a box saying "I have the authority to cancel book/s for this address".
Phone books are really great for propping up laptops or holding doors open
The print is so small you can't read it anyway!!
Cops still use them with their batons
It keeps the home fires burning.
I imagine a lot of the older people I know (eg. 70+ would) still use them when they need something fixed or some other service.
For many years now receiving a paper phone book is a personal choice. You can opt-out online. There was a big advertising campaign years ago to highlight this to the population.
They definitely will not deliver to your address (and only give the correct amount for an apartment block) if you opt-out. One of my neighbours received theirs a couple of weeks ago (new rental tenant), but all of the neighbours who have opted out (incl myself) did not receive the yellow pages. This has been the same for years.
Opt out here if you don't want the white or yellow pages delivered:

Don't they fall under physio aids or medical equipment?
I have two sitting under my monitor.
A yellow and a white pages.
OK, they are the 2006 editions, which was about when they stopped tossing them onto my front doorstep.
But they've saved heaps in chiropractor bills over the years.
Keep them and use them to hit your kids
Raise that monitor to eye level while you google phone numbers and addresses.
I use them as Monitor risers
I never have enough though (perhaps I have too many monitors)…
Actually, the online whitepages and yellowpages give far far too many false (or paid?) Names.
Eg search local window repair, some dude over 50km on other side of town was top.
Online has been polluted like all other searches.
Be Happy, just cancel future deliveries.
