Help Me to Choose a AIO All-in-One

G'day. We have been trying to decide what to get…
Have zeroed in the following:
1) HP 24-B227A
2) Lenovo 520 series

Whilst iMacs are good, but they are outside our price-range and dont think I want to switch operating system after half a century with Windows.
Dell has plenty but having stung by our recent Dell AIO we are feeling very weary.

Thought about the Refurb but are worried about the possible issues….

Budget is around $2k. Looking forward to your sharing. Thanks!!

    • Thanks I did see this but as mentioned, we get a bit of phobia with Dell now :-((

Gather your money All-in-One pile, take it down to your local computer store and buy a real computer.

Some people prefer the aesthetics and convenience of an all-in-one.

I bought a HP about 5 years back. Still going strong.

I don't play PC games so I didn't need the flexibility to swap out video cards etc.

      It does everything I need.

I'd probably look at another all-in-one if it ever carks it.

      • The ability to upgrade is only the tip of the iceberg.

Increased risk as everything is in the one device, monitor plays up you basically need to buy a new computer.

Decreased performance, overall the machines are not optimised for anything other than aesthetics & generally run hotter.

Increased price, you are paying upwards of 20% more for a like for like computers that is inherent to all the other pitfalls.

You are literally paying for Aesthetics by sacrificing performance, cost, risk & repair.

I guess we consumers are fortunate to have a choice.

You make excellent points but again, some prefer the convenience and aesthetics, knowing full well the tradeoffs.

Not everyone has a dedicated study to hide their PC in and prefer an all in one to a tower setup with cables everywhere.

        • Maybe given space restraints.

What about buying a laptop and purchasing a separate external monitor?

Wouldn't this be a better purchase as the cost would be similar to the AIO, you get dual screens & the luxury of being transportable?

Just given every home scenario I can imagine, I can't see the appeal.

Yes its a choice and each to their own, but given the information presented the logic just escapes me.

        • I am not Techno-savvy but I fail to understand why they cant make a good AIO?
To me a laptop is almost an AIO. iBook has been good. What's wrong with all other brands/
I am happy to pay 20% more for aesthetics and space. After all, it's under $200. No gaming, streaming or video. Just a bit of bookkeeping, finances, photos, emails, eBay etc. Dont see much need to upgrade either. Not too much to ask for you reckon?

        • It's not that they can't make a good one, it's that the product is inherently flawed for my above reasons.

And you are correct a Laptop is basically in AIO, except they are cheaper and have the added bonus of being portable/battery operated.

You are willing to spend $2k on a AIO just to do book keeping, a $500 laptop would do the same thing.

Again I am looking at it from a bang for buck perspective.

The fact people such as yourself are happy to pay a premium for an inferior product is fine if both parties are happy.

Sorry for not being helpful on your thread and I hope you find one you like.

        • I cant use laptop for bookkeeping or photos because the screen is too small, and the ergonomic set-up is terrible for laptops.
To have laptop plus monitor, I might as well get a proper PC with tower….
Old eyes is the main issue here, plus old back…..
          Still hopeful for an AIO.
Thanks for your input and time Cypher!
