DeGorilla Free T-Shirt Deal Was a Scam

Just an update on the free t-shirt deal here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/346255

Turns out it was a scam. Just got this email:

My name is Tayler Hughes and I purchased DeGorilla from it's previous owners recently. Escrow went through on Saturday 3rd of March. I've been working non stop to >get to grips with things and this is the soonest I could get an email out.

I'm writing to you in regards to the free promotional T-Shirt that you have ordered from us.

You should have had information months ago but unfortunately that's not how it went, you've been left in the dark and I'm sorry about that.

Where is my T-Shirt?

I'm sorry to say that I don't plan on sending out any free T-Shirts.

The promotion was started in good faith by the previous owners who didn't at all anticipate the huge amount of interest it would receive. They weren't prepared and >couldn't cope. Instead of confronting the problem they buried their heads in the sand, misleading and confusing many of you. I am again sorry for this.

What now?

I am doing everything I can to rebuild the trust so many of you placed in us. Some of you will have seen the new website, new branding and new products. Hopefully >you can tell we're putting a lot of work into the business and will be adding high quality products on a regular basis.

      That's a scam according to the average OzBargainer.

      take tens of thousands of users details. name, email, home address, phone number, DOB. Dont deliver on what you used to obtain that information.

      I hope you have noticed a sudden influx of spam ever since this day. Your details have been sold multiple times.

      they never had any intention of delivering you a tshirt. they had every intention of spamming the userbase with coupon codes though. they also had every intention of selling your private information to the highest bidders.

    Shit happens sometimes- at least the owner came out and set the record straight, so honestly, let's give him a little respect for that.

      Saw on the other thread that 'the previous owner' was emailing people how their stuff free shirt on the way and peddling faux discounts in the same email.

      Its the annoyance factor and unfulfilled promises

    The site had a dishonest scheme to get my personal details with the promise of a free t-shirt. They had no intention of fulfilling the order, yet sent several emails over the course of a few months ensuring the t-shirt was on it's way and offering discounts on other products. Then they offload the business, delete their accounts and disappear. We all got diddled.

    Found the email in my junk folder. When you hoover the pointer over the link you will see the fake link. Maybe they thought people were going to forget about the scam?
