Is There Any Cheap Mobile Plans Now?

we are on Amaysim at the moment when they had the 6 month for $29 promotion and it's coming to an end. Is there anything similar on the market at the moment? Or any plan that is below $20 a month that offers great value? Thanks!

You must have missed this: https://www.kogan.com/au/c/kogan-mobile-buy-one-get-one-free…

    Or this: https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-mobile-prepaid-voucher-co…

In both cases, you need to combine the price above with a $50 off $120 spend voucher you get off ebay.

    • Can I ask whether this is what you referring to?

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Kogan-50-Off-120-Spend-Gift-Vouc…

Also do you know what network Kogan uses? Telstra or Optus?

          There signal is rather bad…..

        • @easoweno: depends where you are located. I’ve never had any issues. A lot better than they used to be.

        • @easoweno: i live in a populated residential area and work in CBD, never had an issue.

        • @Oz8argain: I was with Vodafone 2 years back and I had very bad or no signal at all on my train to the Sydney CBD, is it a lot better now?

Yes, that is what I meant. They were $8 when I bought them, now they are more than double the price! Still ending up ahead if you buy them though, also if you sign up as a new referral, you get an extra $10 credit.

Vodafone was really bad maybe about 10 years ago, I had one of their sims for work and their mobile data was really slow to the point of unusable. My wife is now on the Kogan plan, it doesn't look like she has had any problems with speed, so I think they must have improved a lot since then, or everyone left and therefore no congestion? :)

    • thanks… and you are always there to help….

What do you want from your plan. My son is on the Amaysim $10 plan. 1GB + unlimited text and calls.

  • Amaysim $10 unlimited calls and text and 1GB data.
plenty for me since im always connected to wifi

Be aware that this is for 28 days so there are 13 months (recharges) per year.
That is why I went through Jeenee https://www.jeenee.org.au $9.90 per MONTH with 1.2 GB of data, unlimited calls and txts.

True, but it includes a $10 setup fee. And $10 Sim replacement fee.

Maybe with the amaysim referral you might get ahead.

      • I didnt even know about them when i searched online for anything cheaper than amaysim.

im not worried it will take two years to make jeenee cheaper than amaysim for me since my first month only cost me $2 since it was a deal from coles $10 for sim and first month recharge.

        • I'm a ridiculously light user due to having wifi at home and work, so I am thinking of signing up to Moose Mobile $8 pm plan for 500MB, limited calls (200 mins) and unlimited SMS: https://moosemobile.com.au/plans

        • @kati:
It's not a plan, but light users might want to consider ALDImobile Pay As You Go.
The key feature is that their Pay As You Go gives you 365 days credit expiry.
          $0.12 per min Casual calls
          $0.12 each SMS
          $0.35 each MMS
          $0.05 Data per MB

My usage summary from 01/04/2017 to 14/03/2018:
Usage Type Count Rounded Duration/Data Charge
          Standard Data 3682 1.65GB $84.4170
          Standard Mobile Call - OffNet 50 1 hour, 36 minutes $11.5200
          Standard SMS 5 - $0.6000
          Standard Mobile Call 7 27 minutes $3.2400

So I might actually be better off on Moose Mobile (thanks kati) - but for users who just make a few calls and don't surf, ALDImobile might be better, with a potential cost of one $15 credit purchase per year.

        • @kmwa: Yes, I've also previously been on Amaysim PAYG - similar rates although the data per MB is not cheap - 15.4c per MB!! However the Moose mobile plan is pretty decent if it fits your usage patterns. Just wish I had more reviews about their service, they seem to be fairly new. At least it's month-to-month…

        • @kati: Thanks for this! Might give it a try when my Amaysim ends.

I used to be on Virgin $19 for three months but they've stopped all their prepaid plans, woe!

Kogan is a good option. $200/year for 6gb per month. The signal is pretty good these days on vodafone. Even on the trains. They seem to have upgraded it on even 12 months ago.
The only drawback is the absence of international calls, but I use whatsapp instead. So costs nothing to keep in touch with overseas family.
