  • Some review for SanDisk X300s 512GB m.2 sata ssd ?

    • +6

      Know how to use google?

      • -2

        Username checks out

        • +4

          Username doesn't check out..

    • Its a SATA3 (AKA slow) version of a m.2 card.

You should be getting ~4x that speed with a newer version of this M.2 SSD.

      • +2

Only if it's nvme and if you have a compatible machine… for those with only m.2 sata (eg Yoga 900) this is still pretty tempting… thought the Crucial MX500 m2 sata is meant to be released soon around the $200 mark…

      • +2

Your getting all mixed up with interfaces and sockets.

        • Ahh yep should have said NVME where I said M.2

      • lol. I would love to see any real differences in actual usage considering theres so much more to computing than just data transfer from storage.

    • I copy pasted your question into google, thanks for doing the legwork to get me a review :)

  • Great price on the Sandisk but bloody slow

seems wide enough to get the iops - not sure about the slow comment - seems fair for other things its age/pricepoint.

      withdrawn….

    • You would noy notice the difference between this and the fastest nvne card on the market.

      • -1

Seriously? You assume a about three or more times faster drive is not faster enough to notice the difference?

        • 3-4x in benchmarks for SSDs is about the most meaningless metric in PC benchmarking.
Even more so than graphics cards and CPUs, which might net you a frame here and there.

SATA and NVMe in real life are not that different in normal usage. NVMe is great for having great numbers on a benchmark.

      • Why are you making up stuff?

      • +6

Yeh agreed, my Samsung NVMe SSD barely feels any different to my Sandisk SATA SSD in day to day use.

Probably a second or 2 quicker to boot, but not that I'd even notice..

      • Its true, the on-paper results of nvme drives like my m.2 960 evo are 8-10 times faster but real life results are very marginal.. I.e. when loading into multiplayer games it'll take me 10 seconds and a pal with a SATA SSD drive 12 seconds.

  • +1

Just to make sure - Is it a good replacement for xps13 (9360) original ssd? I understand it is up to 4 times slower, but people say it doesn't really matter for everyday use - is that right?

    • +3

It might be 4 times slower in the smallest timeframes which meams its negligible. You will not notice a difference if u already got ssd

      • ok, thanks :) Double checked, should work with 9360. For regular use - should do!

      • -2

This person has no idea what they're talking about.

If you don't believe me just search youtube for a side by side comparison at booting Windows or loading games or read any serious review site such as toms hardware or anandtech.

        • +1

searched for 'ssd' on both youtube channels - didn't find any comparisons.
          Found this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdF_aerWcW8
Booting Windows and launching BF1, 1 second slower (3%).
          Not big differences.

        • Show me a review where there shows any difference in day to day use. Benchmarks mean shit. Trust me… I run intel nvme drives in raid and even that has negligible differences to sata ssd for everyday usage. You might see benefits if you are dealing with massive files.

  • How would a Samsung 850 evo stand up to this?

  • Man i bought a Crucial MX300 275GB 3D NAND SATA M.2 last week for 108 bucks

  • +1

That RAM works great with Ryzen too. I have it in my build which Ryzen 5 1600 on a B350 mobo. Overclocked my Ryzen to 3.8gz on all 6 cores with stock cooling.

  • I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to pc parts. What is the difference between an ssd like this as the chip vs the ssd in a 2.5" casing. Do these just need a casing to add or are they different in some way?

    • +1

only newer motherboards can fit the chip type as it plugs directly into the board like ram does. The standard ssd connect via a sata plug.

      • That is what I was after thank you.

  • This, or an extra $25 for a Crucial MX500 500GB? :/

  • So I found 16GB DDR4 3000Mhz RAM on static ice today for $184.25. But I'm pretty sure that the company website has the wrong product name and description, because the product code they list is for the 8GB kit, not for the 16GB kit. If someone is interested in getting them to honor their website's information, you might be able to get yourself a good deal:
