I'm not a fan.
Knowledge is Power is a PS4 only game within the PlayLink genre, where people play party-style games using their phones/tablets. KiP is a trivia style game.
Players pick their character, add a funny photo filter, and away we go to answer questions. The trivia is fairly easy and most people with Year 12 finished would find them fairly easy (we did one round which was like, 9 questions? People got stuck on one).
Problems arise because every single question round you get the option to choose from up to 4 different 'attacks' to use on the other players. Some options are:
Freeze - freezes the answers requiring tapping
Slime - adds slime to cover answers, requiring swiping them away to reveal
Bombs - bunch of bombs on screen, I guess they blow up and delay you if pressed, I never hit one
Letter wipe - hides some letters of answers, making answering harder sometimes
There's no limits to the number of attacks on a single person that can be performed. So whoever is in the lead, will likely get 5 (max players) negative effects or more (it's possible to have Double Trouble as option, which is two attacks in one).
Considering the scoring is based on time (quickest is most points, then descending order) and most of the attacks delay you for several seconds, and the easy questions being answered within 3 seconds…. leads to the game really being controlled by the attacks.
The in-game MC talks a lot. And there's no 'skip' option or 'not a new player' option to skip the introductory babble.
IMO this is a game for teenagers at most. It just wastes too much time; the questions are not fulfilling; gameplay is essentially controlled by attacks (which waste even MORE time). Not an ideal combo for adults. Would not recommend.
That's You is another PlayLink game I've tried: not really competitive, questions are based on your actual party you're playing with, highly interactive, supports mutual friend cohesion to score points.
They had to have the attacks or it wouldn't be fun for less intelligent players.. I've played with people of all 'trivia' levels, and pretty much whoever wins is random. You can turtle, and then not get attacked, but if you come out the gate trying to prove you're the smartest, you're going to be on the receiving end of the majority of the attacks.
If you truly want to show off how smart you are, pull out the trivial pursuit, though I think Knowledge is Power is more fun.
