Need New Luggage, Any Recommendations or Sales?

Hi All

I'm travelling overseas this week, and my old suitcase (some cheap one) is Kaput.
I'm looking for any deals on luggage and recommendations on what i should buy. The Samsonite ones look fancy but not sure if they are worth it or not in the long run.

I'll be flying a fair bit over the next 2-3 years, anywhere between 60-100000 miles an year. Any advice would be appreciated.
My criteria are:
- easy to use
- zippers that work well
- something that rolls easily at an airport

Thanks

  • high sierra - good brand, ive used bags for 15 years. i got on sale at myers

  • I like American Tourister, it's a Samsonite brand which is far more affordable.

Custom Luggage on Sussex St in Sydney are helpful and prices are great.

  • These have always served me well in my travels.

    • Hahaha these are great!!!!!! I have used this before on international travel. The cost-to-weight ratio is the best!!

      • haha same actually when I was a starving student.

  • How big do you want?

I saw one on special at Officeworks https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/j-burrows-…

I'm using a small JBurrows suitcase for work travels.

  • Samsonite is good, but I don't know whethere there is a deal for it.

  • American Tourister for similar quality to parent company Samsonite's products but much cheaper in price. It comes with 10 year global warranty.

  • Kmart have a hardshell case for around $80 which seems of pretty good quality.

  • Once I was stuck at JFK, waiting nearly an hour for my baggage to arrive. I was near a baggage carousel, and I got to see quite a lot of airline crews — pilots, hosties — coming through.
About 3/4 of them had Samsonite baggage, which I thought was interesting.
When I came back to Aus, Mrs B and I both bought Samsonite. I makes a huge difference; airports are huge these days, and it you have to roll a case, it's much better to do it with a quality one. I never thought about it much until I got Samsonite myself.
Also, Choice recently tested cabin luggage and American Tourister's $239 bag tied for P1 with one from Kmart, which cost $49.
One more thing; there are places in most capitals that sell repaired Samsonites and American Touristers with warranties for huge discounts. If you search online, you could save 75%.

    • +1 For the Samsonite if it's within your budget. We have Samsonite luggage too, one is over 10 years old and I've only just now noticed that some of the rubber coating is flaking off the wheel. The wheels still turn and operate fine though. A second Samsonite which we inherited seems even older and is still in fine condition. Both cases are extremely well traveled.

  • these samsonites aren't too expensive https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/366307

  • get the cheapest soft sided wheelie bags you can find. All bags get destroyed, so why pay a lot.

Got a good sized wheelie bag from www.luggagedirect.com.au at Kedron in Brisbane for $40 on sale.
