Please Help! How to Connect 12v Siren to 230V Socket?

I want to "plug" a 12v siren into a wall socket (to put it simply).

The siren looks like this, but mine doesn't have the jackplug on the end.

Why? I have the Aqara/Xiaomi gateway alarm and the alarm sound is pathetic - very quiet. It sounds like a kids toy. The siren I mentioned above is very loud so my plan is to trigger the 12v siren using the Xiaomi Smart Wifi Socket when the Xiaomi gateway alarm is triggered.

What's the easiest way to connect the 12v alarm to my socket? (or do you have a better idea?)

  • You will need a mains to 12V power adaptor. How is the power supplied to the siren if it doesn't have a cord?

  • 240v to 12v adapter

  • You can buy 12V adaptors or convert a PSU out of an old PC.

Either way you probably need to solder a new plug or socket on.

just get one of these off ebay. ~$4 and it comes with an adapter for your wires.

    • This is the right thing in one cheaper listing.

    • This looks perfect! Thanks so much for your suggestion! XD

Something like this will probably work:
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AC-DC-12V-2A-110-240V-POWER-SUPP…

That produces 2amps, which is a reasonable current. I know that alarms use 7Ah batteries for back-up, so in the absence of any power usage on the siren itself, 2a is a fair bet to work.

Add one of these to make your siren cable 'pluggable":

Goto a Jaycar store taking the siren with you. You'll be able to find a suitable adapter and test it at the store.

    • WHAT THIS GUY SAID!!!!!

    • This will be plan B (due to JayCar not being close to where I live or work). Great suggestion, thanks!
