Great website for books, but always check www.booko.com.au first.

make sure to compare with amazon first, i just bought 5 books from amazon. they r cheaper compare with bookdepository

    • Quite often Amazon are cheaper, but not once you factor in shipping. But yes, always shop around!

        booko.com.au

Factors in price + postage. It's the absolute best resource for buying books in Australia, in my opinion.
And quite often, it comes up with book depository as the cheapest, so this is a great deal.

too bad it does compare Amazon with it

        • booko is great, but last time I checked there was no way to check on combined postage. I'm fairly sure that Amazon will discount postage for multiple items, whilst bookdepo has a fixed price.

Just something to be aware of really. =]

@issh - assuming you meant "doesn't", you are incorrect… It lists Amazon UK and US in the comparisons, if the item is listed.

^ to ryang, yes there is, add the books to your cart in Booko and it will choose the cheapest merchant including combined shipping. The only thing it won't do right now is split into multiple orders from more than one seller if it works out cheaper that way.

I don't know when you checked but it's been that way for as long as I can remember.

        • Damn, that's great! Thanks! :D

      • for the books i bought, amazon is cheaper after factoring the postage.

        • @ryang, oops i did mean "doesn't", i never knew it did

    • Nice try, Amazon CEO.

wish it could be used for the american .com site as well :(

The differences in price between the UK and US site are minimal, if the book can be delivered by both of them. As already mentioned above, booko.com.au is the best to compare the prices of books or DVDs. Even if they add 10% GST it will be cheaper to buy overseas.

  • Is the UK Book Depository faster to ship that the US one?
I only need 1 book and while Amazon is around 50% cheaper the shipping is more than the $12 book.

Bookdepository is amazing. Takes about a week - week and a half to get to you. I stopped using amazon once i found booko + book depository. Since then 100% of my books are from book depo. Just cheaper.

  • Thanks for this - I'm going to put in a big order tomorrow and this will come in very handy!

  • Hmmm I just compared my basket of 8 books for both the US and UK sites, and with the 10% discount the UK bundle comes out to about a dollar more expensive than the US site. ಠ_ಠ

    • It's called exchange rate…

Thanks for bringing booko to my attention.

      • I dont think its the exchange rate because I just ordered a book and it was slightly cheaper on the UK site after the 10%.

      • Not sure what you mean by 'it's called exchange rate' (thx for the condescension, btw).

Fact is, with or without the discount it's cheaper to order from the US site.

Sometimes the US site is cheaper, other times the UK site is cheaper. Sometimes the US site is significantly cheaper via a US proxy (there was a book that was $14 when I went to it normally, and $8 when I went to it via a US proxy).

      • hey.. that is great to know.. i just bought a book going through the US proxy and it's $2 cheaper than the normal way to US site..

didn't get to use the 10% though..

        • what are US proxies? Are they free?

        • +1

Is worth a look at UK proxy to. Can still use 10% that way, and i've found some - not all, but surprisingly many - of the books are even cheaper via UK proxy than they are through US proxy.

        • +1

surm - yep, there's free ones on internet. Type in something like 'US proxy to website' (or UK), and you should come up with a bunch of options. You put the website address in box and it basically works like a website translator. In this case acting to confuse the site into believing you are viewing it as an American (or British) resident, and thus showing prices aimed at those customers instead.

Is worth opening up multiple boxes with UK 10%, proxy UK 10%, US, and proxy US. For the most part proxy's give better prices, but occasionally there's a book cheaper to regular Australian server front door entry.

I bought three books yesterday which totalled $19.70 via UK proxy (with 10% discount). Through regular UK entry (with 10% discount) they were >$33.

    jesus 80 positive votes
that many people still read books? =O

  • +2

I'd give this a +1 for the booko link alone - holy cow I've been buying books online for years and had no idea! I mean this in a strictly hetero way stanas, but if met you in person I'd click your "+" button…

  • Anyone has bought from www.superbookdeals.com?
Appears significantly cheaper than Book Depository and BetterWorldBooks (for IT books) via booko.com.au

  • direct link displays the coupon box for 10% off at the book depository

    http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/ebay/?a_aid=fkw

  • Their facebook page contains voucher codes as well:

    http://www.facebook.com/bookdepository

  • just bought a 70$ text that was cheaper on bd.com than bd.co.uk even after the discount…

it was cheaper still by going to GBP and checking out with wizard, than to pay in aud.

not the first time this has happened. i'm suspecting the 10% off is really a stunt now.

  • Anyone having problems using Paypal? I keep getting this error when I click Paypal at checkout.

Oops, there are some problems with the form…

Please correct the error(s) indicated below before submiting the form again.

    • PayPal is currently unavailable. Please try again using a different payment method.
    • Yep. American site (bookdepository.com) is working fine for me, but am having same problem with .co.uk site.

  • Not letting me pay with paypal.

    • The deal is supposed to be for ebay and Paypal users and yet they don't let you pay by Paypal. Lol

      • Yes it's crazy!

I have made purchases on other sites over the last few days and have had no problem paying with paypal. This is very strange.

I contacted book depository and received this reply today:

I am afraid that the issue here lies with the customer PayPal interface, and this sadly isn't something we can control or influence. Our PayPal account is up and running, and we are still receiving PayPal orders without any issues.

PayPal have advised us direct any customer who are experiencing this issue to contact them directly. Please find a link to the PayPal customer service centre below:

        https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/helpweb?cmd=_help

        • I received the exact same email. I can buy the books normally through Paypal without the 10% discount active so it's obviously an issue with the Book Depository. Honestly it's not worth a couple of bucks in the end and I just ended up paying full price.

  • i just ordered a book now and this book depository discount code is still working even though it was supposed to expire on the 20th
