Holden VE Commodore Turn Signal Stalk Damaged?

Hi Everyone, There is a new issue with my Holden Commodore.

Not sure what the issue is, but when I turn on my right turn signal the stalk does not stay in the position. It goes back into the default position. In order to activate the right turn signal, you have to hold it down.

All lights are working and have been tested. The hazard button works and turns on all the lights.

Could it be that the front turning lights are nearly dead? Trying not to replace the front lights as you need to remove the front bumper in order to change.
Also, have not tested but could it be a bad fuse.

If I was to remove the front bumper. Would I need to use a torque wrench to tighten it back to specifications?

TL:DR Turn signal stalk does not stay in place. Is the stalk broken or faulty light/fuse?

Sounds like the stalk has had it. The self cancelling function could be misaligned or broken.

There are stalks on eBay, from wreckers, that ate pretty cheap.

I had a VE and have the workshop manual so I could find the instructions on how to change the stalk yourself, if you want.

    Cheers

Also, taking the bumper off sucks. I've done it about 4 times. It sucks a whole lot!

    • Thanks, found one for $35. Is it easy to install?

Have you replaced your blinker fluid with a non-OEM product?

    Not surprising.

  • Could it be that the front turning lights are nearly dead?

The lights will either work, or they won’t. They don’t fade away.

    • Some cars can measure the voltage of the lights and determine wheater they are degrading or not.

      • I think you’ll find that most of them are a simple arrangement that changes the flash rate of a bulb blows.

Can you name a car that does what you say?

        • Block-quote I think you’ll find that most of them are a simple arrangement that changes the flash rate of a bulb blows.

          What do you mean?

All I know is that when my Commodore turn signal flashes rapidly it means the bulbs are nearly dead and changing it fixes the issue. My old Vectra also had a similar function but it would display it on the computer.

        • @No Username: IME fast flash = at least one bulb blown. If you are changin all of them because they are ‘nearly dead’ you are probably wasting a few good bulbs. I’ve never changed more than one at a time upon finding a fast flash, and its obvious which one to change because it doesn’t flash when the others do.

  • I have a similar issue in my accord euro. I have been asked to replace the combination switch.
Windering if anyone has a cheaper solution?
