TomTop Cheating Customer, by Changing Order to Make It Look Like They Shipped The Right Item

A Month ago I ordered a fishing rod from TomTop, there were two models: one is a casting rod ( reel sits on top of the rod, and you cast with the thumb ) and the other model was a spinning rod ( where you put an "EggBeater" under the rod ). The main difference is that the casting rod had a spike at the top, which you place between thumb and index finger. Spinning rod if flat at the top.
I tried casting, and it just doesn't fly with me, so I only use Spinning Reels.

So I order a spinning reel
This is my Order
Note the shape of the rod, and the "color" orange in the order.

This is the rod I wanted
Note the shape of the Rod, and the word "orange" in the blue box.

This is what I got delivered
Which is NOT what I ordered, but instead is this
Note the shape of the reel seat ( with "Spike" ) and "color" "silver" in the blue Box.

I contacted TomTop, and we had an email chain lasting almost one month, where despite me providing evidence of the opposite, they repeatedly told me that I ordered the Casting rod.

Last week I look up my Account, and notice that my order has been changed
Order number is the same, but shape of rod has changed, and color has changed to black2
which now is the rod they sent me

I opened the case with PayPal, and they expect me to ship the rod back at my expenses, because apparently they sent me the correct one. With Registered postage to China ~ $35 I am not going to do that.

I seriously think TomTop should be banned from this site, for such cheating behaviour.

Your order was incorrect. Fishing rods typically come with a C or S extension to denote whether it is spinning or casting.

Your original SKU on https://ibb.co/hYsVk7 tells us it is Y6167C. I did a mock checkout through TomTop and I tried the different combinations of options. A spinning rod comes with the extension Y6167S.

I'm not affiliated but coffee is too hot.

    • Yep, looks like the OP ordered the wrong one then it seems. Oh well, these things happen!

OP Suck it up and move on. You ordered the wrong one, try to sell this one locally and order the correct one. It happens to the best of us and at least it was only sub $50 and not way more!

Did you lookup the pictures too? THey fixed the site AFTERWARDS. Check the pictures, that tells you the real story.
I agree that Y6167S is for spinning, and C is for casting, buy you could not see the SKU when you order, only when it's in the basket, and the picture in the order / basket ( chek it ) is the Spinning. So the picture is correct but the SKU is not, What do you trust more ?

Always trust the SKU. If it doesn't look right, refrain from check out.

These are the risks you take with no frills shops, that the pictures are only representative and not of the actual product.

The fact that they changed the order doesn't bother you ?

        • @cameldownunder: I'm guessing they didn't change the order itself, but rather updated the listing for the product you ordered. The SKU didn't change, but the photos and description could have.

When you purchase something off eBay (and other sites too, I think AliExpress does this), it'll show you what the order looked like at the time of purchase, you have to click a separate link to see any updates made to description after your purchase. This way you could easily prove that what was advertised in the photos and/or description was not what was sent.

        • The order has obviously been changed by TomTop. That just reeks of suspicion .

        • @cameldownunder:
Of course it would but I'm suggesting that maybe they didn't change the order but you overlooked some (admittedly difficult to decipher) details.

No one is arguing that it's okay to change the order details. Preaching to the choir.

      • I'm with tshow, always trust the SKU not the pictures.

So are you saying you noticed the SKU was wrong in the cart but continued anyhow?

tshow, will you get a finders fee?

      • +1

Anyone who "finds" a way for me to get the money reimbursed get 10% of the net ( reimbursement - expenses )

      • Maybe? I don't know. I'll keep my day job but I'll update you if I do.

You paid with paypal. If you've activated returns refund, paypal will refund your return fee up to $45.

    • They don't as this is treated as a "change of mind".

      • Then open a claim and attach the pictures you attached here

        • Did, and PayPal saw the "updated" order and came to the conclusion I received what I ordered.

          @cameldownunder: credit card chargeback then

  • These rods looks cheap. You’re better off purchasing something like abu Garcia.

    • Totally agree on purchasing something like Abu. But my restrictions were: 1) Non Telescopic, 2) length < 1 m ( thanks to Jetstar introducing $50 surcharge for oversized luggage ) 3) < $50, 4) 2-4lbs rods if possible. Travelling to Tasmania ( trout fishing ) last year, I used wonderful Abu's 2 pieces spinning rods, but their length is 1.20. I have D.A.M 8' Telescopic for the lakes and needed spinning one's.

    • I like Nitro rods. They were originally manufactured in Australia but offshored it. Overall, the quality and design is still good but quality control itself isn't consistent.

I have the 007 Viper (5 piece) and it's honestly a decent rod even if it's judged as a one piece. Have pulled in gummies >1.6m at full drag and only suffered a break when I had two lines crossed in a rare all rods hooking up scenario.

      I'm not affiliated.

  • keep away from TomTop.
