New Deals VS Main Page

Hi and "Merry Christmas" to everyone here!

I have the "new deals" page bookmarked, since I thought that is where ALL the deals land, whilst the main page only had deals with heaps of votes. However the other day I thought I saw one on the main page that never appeared on "new deals"… is that possible?

Also - what is the purpose of the 2 different pages? A heap of really great deals never make it to the main page because of limited stock or short duration. Is the idea of the "new deals" page to kind of keep those a bit secret so that those people "in the know" get to see them first?

…or is it more as a spam filter?

    In your preferences you can edit how many positive votes are needed for a deal to appear on your main page, I think 15 is the default.

    The main deals page is there for those really good bargains, if all the new deals went on there too, there would be point for it. I like how it' separated, easier to go back and find recent deals.

    I wouldn't say the new deals is a secret as there is a tab for it at the top of the page, and all the new deals would include the deals that appear on the front page.

    Which bargain was it that "disappeared" from the new deals section?

    RE: spam

    There is a spam filter, use the report function on the deal page, the moderators manually go around the remove deals that don't meet the deal posting guidelines. Ontop of that, if enough people neg a deal, the post is hidden, but you can still manually get it if you've been on it before.

    The top few reasons that a deal is removed are: Duplicates (already on ozb), Spam (overseas spammers), sockpuppeting (reps pretending to be customers).

    IMO (yeah i know i'm a mod saying this), its pretty open here. If you want to know why a deal has been removed, then you can contact the mods in the forums, or if you feel that you want a public answer, post if in the site discussion

    RE: front page

    ozhunter pretty much said it, it goes on the front page when it reaches a certain threshold of positive votes, when you're a member on ozb, you can adjust this (you're already a member)

    New deals page - is actually new deals, that havent got enough votes yet to make the front page.
