Camelbak Podium Bottle 700ml - $14.90 (Free Shipping) @ Snowys

320

As always Snowys have come to the party with a good deal on Camelbak bottles. Not only do they have a few varieties but they come with free shipping which makes for a good deal.

I ordered 2 different types of bottles which worked out cheaper than local stores and I had them delivered home within 3 days.

They also have other great outdoors and camping deals so check them out. As far as I am aware they are an Australian company.

CamelBak supports the NRA, do you want to suppprt CamelBak?

    • +6

YEAH OP! DO YOU WANT TO SUPPORT SCHOOL SHOOTINGS?
LET'S LEAVE POLITICS OUT OF DEALS BY BANNING CAMELBAK TO START WITH!

      • +1

How about we just move deals like this to a new website - ozbargaincrime.com.au maybe?

    • +3

Yeah clicked here to say the sale is probably because the brand is hurting due to boycott.
These are most popular with cyclists, and a lot of cyclists are lefties against kids being slaughtered so sales will be down.

      • +2

I'm reading this as we should wait a bit longer for even better deals if they continue to support nra?

        • +1

Probably won't go cheaper. But I do expect their cycling stuff (a number of brands) to keep showing up on discount until the boycott campaign burns out.

      • +3

I really don't think they're doing a minor discount on a bottle based on a minor boycott.

      • Not all cyclists are lefties. I'm a cyclist and a 'Rightey' against kids being slaughtered

    • +8

I'm as far from being a leftie as it is possible to be. I'm also a cyclist and I am a big believer in Gun control laws after serving 15 years as an officer in the Australian Army. I love these water bottles but I tossed both of mine in the bin last week. Small insignificant protest i know but I'm not supporting anybody that sells semi auto rifles to teenagers (despite the fact that i bought a semi auto rifle when i was 18 at a K Mart right here in Australia back before the 1986 gun buyback!!). Buy whatever you want but I'm not supporting the NRA.

      • why not just put them aside and not use them until camelbak changes its stance.

        • I can buy other waterbottles, although these were my favourites they are easy to replace. I actually dont think it is camelbak's fault. They were bought out last year by these guys.

      • Or tape over their logo? Putting it in the bin is just a waste as they've already been purchased prior to the NRA stuff? You say its easy to replace but why replace something that isn't broken (beside the logo)?

        • I already have 7 or 8 water bottles I have somehow accumulated. Some from doing a charity ride, others from buying them as fillers to get to the magical free shipping limit when I bought something else. These bottles were good but certainly not worth the effort to do anything special like taping out the branding, plus, I dont want to have to explain to everyone why I taped out the branding. I dont want to support the NRA but this isnt like being a Vegan or doing crossfit, I dont feel the need to have to advertise to everyone I'm doing it.

        • @2ndeffort:

lol taping isn't much of an effort. Fair enough if you don't want to explain to everyone about the branding but isn't that a much more effective form of protest? No advertising and spreading awareness through low key taping/when people ask about it haha.

        • @diamondtouch1: you're probably right about it being an effective form of protest. I'm not really interested in being an Australian anti-NRA crusader/protester, just somebody that chooses not to actively support and promote NRA causes. I'm also not interested in going to Bunnings to buy dark duct or electrical tape, come home and cut it into the right shapes to cover up branding. I already have another 5 or 6 bottles in my cupboard, I dont have to spend anymore money all I have to do is choose a different bottle out of my cupboard. I'm also pretty sure that when I turn up to my next group ride with a water bottle covered in duct tape I will stand out like the proverbials and spend most of my ride being asked what the tape's for. I'm not interested in being a champion for anti-NRA just somebody that personally doesnt want to support them.

Some other brands owned by Vista Outdoor:

  • +11

Politics aside, these are lightweight, insulated (not fantastically well but ok) but the nozzle gets grotty inside and needs regular disassembly and cleaning.

    • -1

And it is pro guns #metoo

      • +2

        politics aside

      • Well, the company already has my money. But I think in future I will look at other brands.

    • +1

Yeah considering all I drink out of these bottles is water, the amount of funk that gets in the nozzle is gross

    • One correction, these are not insulated. The insulated versions are called the "Podium Chill". There are multiple sizes with and without insulation, but the ones linked do not have insulation.

That said I got one of these at the last deal, I bloody love it. So convenient and the valve thing works great. I got one of the bigger Chill versions for my dad and he likes it too.

EDIT: Here's the insulated version for $17.90: https://www.snowys.com.au/podium-chill-bottle-600ml

They have the larger versions on sale too. For any Melbournians that miss out, Letour Cycles in Kilsyth have most of this range of CamelBak bottles for good prices… They charge a bit for shipping though so that would probably kill the deal if you can't pickup.

  • +1

Always bugs me that the Podium Chill doesn't come in 'normal' colours (at least from Snowy's), compared to the Podium.

  • Is the Podium Chill worth the extra $5? Anyone had experiences with the chill, or both?

    • I have both and found the nozzles on the chill lasted longer. Can't fault either really . Will buy again for sure . They dealt with punishment from 3 boys and 2 adults . Lasted longer than any other drink bottles O have purchased

      • How was the insulation for the Chill? Did it keep your water cooler for a lot longer vs. the Podium for e.g.?

        • Chill definitely longer . If was going for jog or something that was going to be over quick I preferred the extra 100ml the non-chill one provided though

    • Got both, the chill stays cooler for longer, but not more than 30-45 minutes. Prefer the extra capacity of the non-chill for longer rides.

    • I think so, I have both but would only get the chill again. (I would order another now, but have to help send a boycott message).

It's no thermos, but does insulate a lot better.
I also figure that the double layer with UV blocking helps reduce chemical venting, though it's just my guess.

  • I'm buying 2 to support Camelbak

  • I use the podium ice on my bike. Stays cool for quite some time

Sorry I don’t research every company to see their policies, commitments and support. I suppose that those who buy water bottles with the plastic coming from China are also supporting the communist party. China are responsible for human rights violations, so am guessing you’re not buying pretty much all plastic. Next time have a look at your country of origin. I am supporting Snowys.
As for the orificer too late you’ve already purchased so you’ve pledged your commitment, have a look where the cheapest bidder, aka your Q store, get their equipment.

I actually work as a BD Guy in the Defence Industry selling stuff to the Defence Force. I tend to get involved with much more complicated things than Water Bottles but it might surprise you to know that the government is quite smart when it spends out $$ and the cheapest stuff doesnt always win the tenders. Most competitions these days need to include their 'Australian Industry Component' (AIC) in their proposal. Most of the big stuff still originates from overseas but companies get scored in the selection process on how they are including Australians in their project. This is how it actually works, I know this isnt funny or quick and that it doesnt fit your apparently witty takedown but there you go. I'm not a pariah or moral crusader, definitely not a leftie but I am against putting semi auto weapons in the hands of civilians. Any small part I can play in protecting schoolkids anywhere is well worth the effort. Not sure what point you are trying to make with your timeline, I dont care if I already bought the bottles, I am not riding around with their branding on the side of my bike giving them tacit endorsement. I actually feel sorry for the Camelbak, Giro and other comapnies affected since they were only bought out by Vista a couple of years ago. Either way I dont care, they arent going on my bike, there's plenty of waterbottle makers that dont give money to the NRA, I'll use their kit instead.

      • These have been some solid informative replies, thanks for the info.

      • Does Thermos support NRA too? thinking to buy some Thermos instead or is there other ones you recommended?

        • +1

I dont think so, Giro and Camelback seem to be the most affected since they are owned by Vista Outdoor, one of America's biggest Guns & Ammo manufacturers. https://movetenms.com/2018/03/03/boycott-of-giro-camelbak-an…

I have accumulated Bidons or waterbottles from a range of places.

If you want to impress the peleton at your next bunch ride you could try Rapha Bidons, they have a bundle deal on now, 2 water bottles for USD $20. Just like BMW etc the rapha label on the side is worth double the asking price. Apparently that logo alone pumps up your FTP by 20 Watts! (sorry, cycling joke) https://www.rapha.cc/us/en_US/shop/water-bottle-bundle/produ…

If you want something equally as aesthetiically pleasing to the harcore cycling set but would like to keep the dollars at home, try these bottles from Queensland company Blacksheep cycling. I dont have any of their bottles but I do have some of their kit and it is first rate!!! https://au.blacksheepcycling.cc/collections/bidons expensive but oh so de rigeur for the cycling fashionista

Here's a melbourne company called Fyxo that has some Water Bottles, I kinda like the WD40 one but you would want to check it before drinking https://fyxo.co/collections/bidons

Of course the wiggle folks have them from about $3 upwards + postage http://www.wiggle.co.uk/water-bottles/

The Camelback product is insulated and obviously the cheaper versions of bottles arent insulated. This hasnt been a major factor me, sadly i am shallow enough to use a funny or trendy bottle instead of an insulated one.

        • @2ndeffort: FYI Those Rapha ones are Camelbak and they do add at least 20kW

        • +1

@pitiek: Thanks for that, I didnt know. I tend to use bottles I picked up at mass events or team/club bottles. I've also picked up a couple of Assos or elite brand bottles where I was buying a top from Wiggle and needed something worth an extra $10 to make the free shipping minimum value!

  • +1

A bit surprised this price made the cut, it's our everyday low price… Thanks for the share though!

    • Came here to find a deal on these waterbottles..and now im educated on who now owns Camelback I wont be buying…

Ben - perhaps you could make a stand and stop selling these due to their NRA support?

  • gun control only applies to law abiding citizens…criminals don't give a toss about what laws are passed

all you are doing is collectively punishing law abiding citizens

    • is it the same as the movie "law abiding citizen"? but are you as skilled as Clyde or Liam Neeson in Taken?

    • +1

Gun massacres mostly involve legally purchased and registered guns. And people who in hindsight should not have passed any sensible gun possession test due to their mental state and social media comments.

So keep that argument for when massacres involve illegally acquired and owned weapons.

NRA oppose sensible controls like better mental health evaluation, more secure gun storage, transponder devices so alarms will go off if an unmodified gun comes within 100m of a sensitive area.
That is the big issue with the organisation, they oppose a sensible middle ground management.

    • +1

Silly argument. We havent had a mass shooting here in Oz since Martin Bryant at Port Arthur in 1996. Where are all theses gun totting criminals? Why are our kids safer? The only people getting blackmarket guns here are the organised criminals. i dont know about you but i dont have a black market gunsmith on speed-dial. Maybe a Drug lord or Bikie boss does but regular people generally dont. I would assume that because there are steep penalties for black market guns availability is low and supply is low. Laws of supply and demand therefore indicate that cost would be very high. So even if an upset kid wanted to shootup a school where does he get an AR15? he has to find a blackmarket dealer prepared to sell him one and then he has to have the money for one. I have a 16 year old son and he would struggle to organise a dental appointment much less a blackmarket weapons deal. I am sure a bikie boss wanting to wipe out a rival gang could probably get one but seriously bad criminals killing each other is almost a public service, they dont want to shootup schools, they just want to sell you drugs and hookers. they dont want the scrutiny that comes with mass shootings, they'd rather be left alone to get on with making money and the guns are only needed to keep rivals in line or take out competitors.
