Yep, and when you get to 60 you'll have to show your Seniors card. Likewise pension cards for those on unemployment benefits. Students arent better than anyone else
Just think, if you dont have to show the student card (when asked) then everyone could just rort the system
Its all here sunshine

Yes
It also has to be unexpired because they check dates.
Yes, otherwise anyone and everyone will just buy concession..
Well yes, you are expected to have it with you and supply it.
But there's been more than one occasion where they haven't asked for it and I've forgotten to take it out of my wallet. They just scanned the opal card.
Note: the same penalty (normally) applies for travelling with a youth/concession/senior card without the required proof/documentation as simply not tapping on in the first place. Unless you are great at BSing and can manage to wriggle out of it.
Just wait for the thread when someone asks OP for his Trade Certification.

Doesn't get much clearer than this:
You must carry your proof of entitlement (either a valid approved student ID card or a Transport Concession Entitlement Card) and your Concession Opal card when you travel within the Opal network.

YES /thread
As a side note. I don't know what IDs kids get these days but it was frustrating back in my day if you "dressed up" to go somewhere as a kid under 15. The bus driver wouldn't accept my laminated school card.
If you're using a concession fare, the earnest is on you to prove (when asked to by relevant authorities) your eligibility. This is not specific to Opal, public transport, facilities…
