How to Donate to Charities Via Google Chrome for FREE Dec 15-Dec 19

Through December 19, each tab opened via Google Chrome web browsers will result in a free donation to a charity of your choice. (To participate, install Google's Chrome for a Cause extension or download Chrome with the extension for free via this link.) It's the first such donation offer we've seen direct from Google's Chrome browser.

  • that's good because i'm chrome is my main browser
install 'chrome for cause' right now

  • Cool, I mainly use Firefox because of all the plugins. but Chrome is much better in speed and reliability. Chrome-Ahead!

I'm sad it supports overseas charities though :(

  • So what's stopping me from pressing crtl+t?

    • absolutely nothing, Google is that generous. Note that their is a 230 tab limit! But that's 23 trees and a whole heap of other things (:

This should be posted in the New Deals section on the front page. Free Donations is a great deal. I'd suggest this ones like a $30 freebie. Maybe even more…

=====Maybe not super great but still great=====
      The Charitable Donation

Google has set a maximum contribution of $1,000,000 associated with the Google Chrome for a Cause extension. You agree Google may change this maximum contribution at its sole discretion.

      Limit on tabs submitted

Google Chrome for a Cause sets a daily maximum for the number of tabs you may submit, presently equal to 250 tabs per day. You are also limited to accruing one tab per second towards your daily maximum. You agree to abide by these limitations, and will not use multiple accounts, automated means or other methods to circumvent these limitations. You further agree that Google may change these limitations at its sole discretion.

(you can open 1 tab a second 250 tabs a day) - Only one day left so that's a maximum 250-500 tabs I think.

      • got my 250 done

      • Ah that's how they'll stop me from crtl+t.

So when does it start or has it already?
Time for me to install chrome lol.

  • Thanks, installed extension.

MSF/DWB is an international organisation. They have Australian offices, so I wouldn't say they are overseas. And the others probably operate internationally too.

  • +1

The Chrome community responded with staggering enthusiasm and, acting together, raised 60,599,541 tabs for charity.

Each Chrome user chose the causes their tabs would support, which determined how we allocated our one million dollar donation. Accordingly, we’re excited to make the following donations on behalf of the Chrome community:

    • $245,278 toward planting trees in the Atlantic Forest, one of the world’s endangered tropical forests.
    • $232,791 toward providing clean water, by building freshwater wells for communities in developing nations.
    • $112,078 toward building shelter, to be constructed by volunteers for impoverished families in Latin America.
    • $267,336 toward administering vaccinations against meningitis to combat outbreaks in Africa.
    • $142,518 toward publishing books by local writers and illustrators, which will be created and donated to schools and libraries across Asia and Africa.

This number of tabs apparently amounted to raising $1 million (Google never mentioned how much each tab was worth), so it looks like each tab you opened, while having the extension installed, resulted in a contribution of about 1.65 cents.

    • Sounds like what it is saying is that Google was going to donate 1 million anyway and the tabs were just a way of voting for the proportions to various causes.

I didn't mind because I use tabs with abandon in Chrome anyway. :)
