When is the best time to book a trip to Vietnam - Christmas / new year period

I want to book for a family trip to Vietnam departing just after Xmas day and returning about mid Jan. I’m wondering if there is any chance of a sale that would include these dates or should I just go ahead and book now to secure the current price.

Ideally I’m looking at flying Singapore airlines or virgin, as they seam to offer the best routes from Brisbane. Would consider a budget airline but price checking now indicates they are no more competitive on price (AirAsia and scoot both higher with luggage than Singapore airline).

Any suggestions?

    there are usually jetstar sales but you're going in peak period so it won't be cheap

    I went in late January this year. $550 return with Scoot, including baggage. Singapore stopover there and on the way back, flew into Ho Chi Minh City and flew out of Hanoi. I'd suggest using Google Flights to find cheap flights around those dates, it will recommend dates to leave and arrive that are the cheapest in that period.

    Since you're flying from Brisbane I don't think you have as much competition as we do in Sydney? I think Chinese airlines might be more competitive here.

    I don't even bother flying in late December but one thing I can assure you is don't leave it too late. I'd rather kick myself as an OzBargainer for paying $250 extra per person than pay $600 extra per person or more. Maybe wait a few months for a Singapore airlines sale but otherwise lock it in. Jetstar with a super-long wait in Melbourne and surcharges is the biggest Christmas rip-off.

      Thanks Peter, this seams like good advice. I checked in Jan and could get flights for under $1000, but now I’m mooking at $1150. Just can’t decide if that is likely to go up, or down.

      I know that’s the million dollar question.

      Just how far out do I wait before I lock in prices :)

        only really goes up. christmas period not like other dates.

    Yeah, what Jason said, end of year is peak period for families holidaying because of school holidays.

    You won’t find sale fares for that time period, it’s pretty much the busiest period of travel.
