Just bought a bike and a D lock, where can I buy lock holder/bracket?

Hi,
I have recently bought my first bike (Merida Speeder 20 D Flat Bar 24 Speed Road Bike 2017) for the daily commute, and a few days back I also bought a D-Lock. The problem is, D-lock didn't come with any mounting bracket, or a holder so that I can attach it to a bike while riding, hence, I have to keep the lock in my backpack, which makes it pretty heavy.

Does anyone know any local store that sells mounting bracket, or a holder for D-lock in Melbourne?

Thank you

  • Just leave it locked where you park at work. Carry a smaller lock for stopping at the shops on the way home (but don't leave it for long).

    • Yes, but while riding, I can't leave it locked, or lock on the bar, it moves a lot. I need a mounting bracket to keep it still while I am riding a bike, so I don't have to keep it in my backpack.

I just use a Saddle bag.

cheap, gets the job done, will hold more than just locks.

D locks are pretty big, I doubt that Dueter Triangle Bag can even fit

No, he meant leaving the lock at work, so you're not taking the lock everywhere. When you get home, keep the bike in your house.

        • There it is. If I did need to lock my bike securely at work I'd have a big burly lock at work and leave it at work. Just to be clear, the lock would stay at work.

As it is, my workplace is pretty secure, so I only use a cheap lock to prevent practical jokes. I leave that on the bike rack at work too. At home they live in the locked garage.

I also carry a small cable lock in my back pack in case I want to stop at the shops on the way home. This is for infrequent, irregular use, so my bike isn't left in the same place and time for a thief to learn when it will be there. I wont use it for my expensive bike unless I can keep it in line of sight from said shop and only for a few minutes at most. The lock is only to stop the opportunistic thief.

  • Any bike store (search on google for your area) should sell mounting brackets that attaches to the frame or the seat, take your lock into the store and ask a staff

The lock should’ve come with a mounting bracket…

    • not really, most of them sell as an optional attachment for more money

      • at least the good locks may not have a mount. Cheapo ones often come with a 'free' mount to make you think it is better value but the reality is, that the lock is cheap rubbish.

put the D-lock around your neck whilst riding.

it's a good way to remember to lock your bike as well.

he might not remember as he already wears a very big gold clock around his neck already

  • Get a basket on the back and keep it in there. Put your backpack there when riding too, saves your shoulders and back aching.

    • This is true, but I found it mucked up the handling of the bike so I went back to a backpack.

  • Get some velcro straps. Good D locks for some reason does not sell any mounting attachments. Lock it on the frame while riding, hang it off the handlebars perhaps.
