Hello oz bargainers, my roadside assistance just expired, i was with nrma. I didn't use there service in the past year. Should i continue with them or is there other company providing better deal then the nrma. The nrma is 110$ yearly.

    what vehicle do you drive?

Must be a Camry or Corolla. Everything else would have broken down.

Got it right mate. Camry 2001

        • That’s gold!

2001 is getting on a bit though. There’s a good chance of a dead battery and a slight chance of worse (because Camry). If you can afford to get stuck in the middle of nowhere and organize your own transport/repair, then there isn’t really any need for roadside assist. If you need to be able to get going again within an hour or so, then maybe roadside assist is reasonable ‘insurance’.

Personally, I ‘self insure’ for my Ute, but my wife has roadside assist because she isn’t mechanically minded and would struggle with a tyre strength wise.

        • @Euphemistic: I will buy the assistance of course. Just looking out if there is better deals than nrma from any trusted names.

This. if your car is new-ish, dont bother.

Make sure you do your proper checks:

      • Battery - routine check up from SCA is free.
      • Service your car on time
      • Periodically check and top up fluids.
      • Periodically check spare wheel is properly inflated - free at petrol stations.
      • Know where your tools are in your car - jack, wheel wrench etc.
      • Keep a set of basic tools in your car - screwdrivers, basic sockets and pliers.
      • If you don't know how to change a tyre - learn it (youtube) - free.
    • Its Toyota camry 2001

    • Almost certainly would not be a Falcon or Commodore. The roads are littered with ones that have broken down.

According to it "Cover available when a Member has broken down over 100 kilometres from home.
Cover available when a Member has had an accident over 100 kilometres from home
      ".
      Useless

      • Odd statement on the front page, but is not in the terms and conditions when you get to the sign-up step.

  • Can you change your own tire?

Do you know which coolant type you use?

Do you know how to jump start a car?

Do you know how to check your oil level and which oil you use?

If you answered no to any of the above, pay for roadside assistance.

  • If its an old car, and u want peace of mind yes. But u could also prob find somewhere cheaper, eg. Sometimes your insurance gives u the option at much cheaper

  • I hv got woolworths insurance and they offer for $60 rooadside assistance - thought surely not as comprehensive as yours

Just use the gotU app: no need for memberships just use as needed.

    • $65 each time you use it from memory. I used it last year and they were pretty quick to send someone.

  • How is the service of budget direct if anyone have used the service?

  • My Youi Insurance includes roadside assistance, though I wouldn't think you have comprehensive insurance on a 17 year old Toyota.

  • Coles insurance adds roadside assistance for $65 per year, the times I have used it they send nrma
