I have the second gen. I used the mopping feature. I think it's worth it.
Can you elaborate on this? Did you use it for tile/floorboard/etc? Cheers
Tiles
I see a lot of bad reviews on the mopping feature, that it's just pushing water around or something like that.
U find it gives a decent clean?
Okay, so I have gen 2 and getting gen 1 for someone else.
It is very simple, it is just a rug at the back attached to a water supply and it will drop small drops of water onto the rug, making it wet.
So, does it work well? It is simple, but it does do the job well. I used it for the bathroom and it was very clean and shining at the end. However, if you have majority carpet then DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY
There is no feature that allows it to lift up the rug or anything like that when it is on carpet, so you'll just have wet carpet.
Also, the water supply isn't a lot..so if you want to clean a massive area then I'd recommend just wetting the rug that is attached at the back as well. I'd only get the gen 2 exclusively for the rug, if your house is majority tiles or wooden etc.. because even after using it, you will have to wash and clean the rug, deattach the water supply and put it all back etc… just too much effort for 1-2 small rooms.
If you have taller carpet (more than 2cm tall) then I'd recommend looking into getting the gen 2 because it is a bit better when it comes to height.
Although, give me like 1 week and I can tell whether or not it is worth the extra $150-200 because I haven't tried out the gen 1 yet and it arrives soon for me (decided to order it from someone local because faster shipping).
so it can't differentiate between carpet & hardflooring ?
it continues to spits water on carpet ?
@phunkydude:
It cannot, since the mopping attachment is rudimentary. It is literally a water tank with a pad being dragged around under the vaccuum cleaner at the back. Using nothing more than gravity to continuously wet the pad.
It does identify carpet, as a feature to increase suction speed; but this is separate from the pad.
we have mostly tiles, only bedrooms with carpet
I love it. Totes worth for me.
The vacuum at the rear has an area for this "semi-circular disc" that is about 1cm tall to be attached.
it can be filled with water.
The water seeps through three holes, two of which have some filtering element onto a washable pad. The pad, once wet, then "mops"
It literally drags the mopping pad and tank on its rear.
On one bathroom, if i add too much "handy andy" cleaning product, the bot gets stuck since the tiles are uneven and it's too soapy and it cannot get traction. Instead, I use dish detergent, one quick splat of it in the tank and hot water. You're also meant to pre-wet the pad before attaching.
I get around 30 to 40mins of mopping time in the tank. But i normally refill after 30mins to it doesn't get too cold - i prefer it with hot water.
Battery life is excellent. It can do its thing for an hour and go from 100% to … 40% maybe.
It charges slowlyish. a couple of hours to go from 40% to 100% maybe
Thanks so much for detailed review! I've got mostly tiles so it sounds like this may be worthwhile investing in!!
(sorry OP for hijacking conversation)
You're fine, also I got the Gen 1 today and tried it out.
If you didn't buy it yet, I'll tell you what I found out.
So the Gen 1 works just as good as Gen 2 for short carpets and wooden floors.
Gen 1 is a little bit louder than the Gen 2 at max speed.
Gen 2 has this cool feature, where you can outline a square on the map and tell it to vacuum that specific area, which is a nice feature. Gen 1 doesn't have this feature sadly
However, the biggest issue that I found… and the reason I will be returning it and getting the Roborock again is simple…it can't handle any carpet that is more than 0.5cm tall. Pretty much, can it get up on the carpet? Yes, but it REALLY struggles to get up as in..if it tries to go from wooden floor to the 0.8cm tall carpet I have, it takes at least 4-5 attempts until it finally gets up. It was fine on my short carpets though
Now that I seen the truth (and will most likely lose 20% of what I paid), I'd never recommend the Gen 1 to anyone that has carpets at their house.
