I read this article in BGR regarding payout for LG mobile affected by bootloop. Does anyone know of something in Australia?

Nup. Same thing with Volkswagen cars, where in the US Volkswagen offered a buyback scheme because of the Diesel shenanigans but nada here.
My feeling is that a lot of these heavy hitters just see Australia as too much of a dinky little market to even really bother taking too seriously.
They'll, sometimes, bend over backwards in the States cause they don't want one of the largest consumer markets to give them the cold shoulder but Australia is just too puny unfortunately.
No, but you may be protected by the Australian Consumer Law or ACL. It entitles you to your choice of refunds, replacement or repair for a 'major failure'. There's precedent of reputable retailers accepting that a bootloop that makes a phone unusable is a'major failure'. I've personally done it twice with Nexus 5X phones, receiving full refunds on 12 month old phones - far better than the US payouts in my view.
There's more discussion of the ACL in the whirlpool forums if you want it.
Not if you crack the screen. Pretty BS as well because i've been told if I didn't get a cracked screen I'd be fine to get a refund but since I did it's considered a minor failure because they can fix it.
