Can Anyone Recommend Decent Pre Built New Computer under $800 for Home Use with SSD

Looking to get a decent desktop for home office use basically to work on office suite and little bit of video editing, internet browsing.

I already got a monitor and thinking if can get small compact size unit desktop which I can place under the table.

I m not up to date with computer technology, but have reasonable understanding of specs requirement.

Please share your opinions/ recommendations.

    New or Used?

  • I've been wondering if it's better value to buy parts at MSY or a whole system pre-assembled.

A shame the technology has barely evolved this decade, my desktop PC is 8 years old and specs-wise it's still ok!!

SSD is the main incentive for me to upgrade (my BIOS won't recognise them).

      This.

If you add an ssd and extra ram to a 5 year old (even 10 year old) box then it's not going struggle with what you intend to do with it.

    OPTION ONE
If you're OK opening up a desktop: (sorry, windows conversation; Apple machines are sealed tight)

Three year old ex lease machines such as HP or DELL on ebay/graysonline (around $200) are your solution. Add a new SSD (256GB - $120), and you''ll have all you need. If it has less than 4GB RAM, you'll need to upgrade that. With more RAM, $400 will be all you need for 2 years usage or more.

    OPTION TWO
Best option (I use these in our office and I'm working with one now):

Intel NUC +SSD +4GB RAM - $500 or so gives you a silent and capable PC. Install Ubuntu (or Windows if you have a licensed copy).

    SSD

The PC shops will set this up for $70 or so, so you walk out with a prebuilt machine, you'll need to install an OS.

Look for the Dell Inspiron 5675 when it goes on sale. It hit the front page with 116 votes.

It is (was) priced at $959.20, but it's significantly cheaper than actually getting one built.

However it might be a while before a 20% off deal comes again.
