    No mention of detection depth.

It's right there in the title: "Deep" :)

Went to the effort of reading the manual. No mention in there either.

I was going to get this for my kids last Christmas but was worried that it would be just good enough for a casual enthusiast to be able to make any use of it but not reliable and simple enough for kids. That said, I have no experience with these things apart from seeing the oldies out on the shore in my youth and bugging them about whether they found anything.

Do any of you have any tips about one for a kid to use to explore?

If your kids are like most I know they will be over it real quick. It's all excitement at the start but a few bottle tops and an hour later it wanes. Also larger detectors are mis-suited and uncomfortable for their small frames and arms. If you just want them to have a quick dabble then I recommend a cheapie, or second hand even better.

      • at $60 it is a cheapie ….. my son lost interest real quick, but comes in handy in the garden and when building looking for nails in timber etc.

have never found gold with mine.

        • Stay positive. It’s out there…

I would recommend hiding a few coins beforehand, so that you know they'll definitely find something. A few early successes can be a powerful motivator

will wait for xiaomi metal detector…

    • +7

… to detect the remains of former affluent Ozbargain members buried shallow in the sand.

      • +2

        wtf? lol

      • Who are buried with all their Xiaomi products?

        • I guess so. Late, a few sherbets,

i would love a metal detector and could definitely use one where i live. but $60 tells me that im not going to enjoy this one for long.
Any suggestions from someone with experience on a metal detector? brands, types, features?
if i could use it in saltwater, even better.

Buy the cheapest tool. If it breaks, that means you've been using it so go out and buy a better one.

No point spending big on a tool you might only use for 20 minutes..

    • I also like Minelab detectors. Many different detectors, depends on what you want to look for and what your budget is, I like to look for gold :-)

      • do you find much?

        • Never enough :)

  • How good is it?

  • Will I get rich?

    • +8

Yes you may find some bitcoins

Most of the reviews are 4-5 stars and simply say "looks good, havent used it yet" … wtf imagine reviewing a car or food or anything that isn't a freaking statue like that.

I do not trust this product.

    • +6

"No feedback from family about this product".. uh.. OK "Fiona H" thanks a bundle.

      • +3

Amazing how 89 people can review a product and give barely any useful information.

        • +4

I think the whole process is 'amazing'

Nobody I know takes the time to review things, yet almost everyone I know will factor customer reviews into their decisions

Given that, its no wonder that you can have so many people leaving useless reviews. The whole system seems to revolve around those who are either bored or not 'smart enough' to realize the pointlessness of it.

      • +2

i bet all the reviews are fake.

  • That’s gold!

  • i have one of these works at really good depth on metal picks up gold have not tested the depth on that though.
