Questions about Online Purchases and Import Tax

Hi!

Was wondering what are the options to bypass the 1000AUD limit import tax. Also unclear about the procedure of taxing my purchase shipment. Same parcel? Or receivers'name? Or declared goods value? I searched the forum (briefly) and couldn't find something useful.

Any inputs are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You can bypass it by buying locally

Customs are not public about their exact procedures because if they were, you would know what sends up flags for them to catch people trying to dodge the tax, and avoid doing it.

You can read the info they do give on their website.

Don’t try to commit tax fraud, the penalties are worse than the benefits, that is not a bargain. If the sender does not pay the tax before Auspost processes it, the receiver is sent the bill.

    Keep your purchases below $1000.

In the scheme of things anything over that becomes a worry with warranty, lost, damaged deliveries etc.

    We need more information.

Is this one item or a bulk order? Can the item be split up to two or more consignments?

Will be a lot lower than $1000 if Gerry Harvey's tax gets through government this year.

All I will says is that secondhand goods (even if it is just having the box opened) are worth less than brand new goods.
