      Some people prefer the Trezor

    • +1

they are very similar. trezor has an inbuilt password manager though.

Ledger nano s has support for more altcoins (eg. Ripple) so keep that in mind

Anyone who has a gambling itch should probably stay away from cryptocurrencies. You should only invest money you can afford to lose, same as gambling.

what's the best way to make money with cryptocurrency?
    - sell equipment that mines cryptocurrency
    - sell or adware software that mines cryptocurrency
    - sell anything else that helps mining or using cryptocurrency
    - never buy cryptocurrency

    • +3

Thats the best way? If you put $1 into Verge in March last year it would have been worth over $16,000 just 9 months later.

      • +5

and if you put $20,000 in now it may not be worth 50¢ by December.

        • Yes, it'll be worth a million then!

People should only buy hardware wallets from the manufacturer site, or verified / authorised resellers.

This site says it is an "Authorised Trezor reseller in Australia" however it is not listed here: https://trezor.io/resellers/

A wallet that has been tampered with by an unscrupulous reseller can cost you all of your crypto. I am not accusing OP of that, however a popup store with only one product does not inspire confidence.

    • Trezor has not updated their reseller list in quite a while. I can assure you that all are authenticate and have their tough factory seals on them.
WE are based in Melbourne Australia, and are a registered Australian company with ASIC.

Whilst I completely agree that people should be wary when purchasing hardware wallets. I can say that Elbaite is trusted, and all Trezors are original.

When you literally have bait in your company name it's a bit harder to trust you.

        • Elbaite refers to the crystal, and not the act of baiting, however I can see the humour to your comment, all I can say is that the only thing we are baiting are the lowest prices for Trezors for Australians tired of paying high prices than the rest of the world. We hope to expand our range of products in the near future with the same low prices. We are working with Trezor to get the business on the reseller list on their website.

          Cheers,

      • Trezor has not updated their reseller list in quite a while

That's… quite concerning for a company that is making products in the crypto and hence computer security field.

[update] ah I see they've finally updated their list now.

  • Op should make it clear if they are actually the authorised reseller. At least make sure the official site has their name on it.

    - This is not directed at this seller but just a general warning -

Just a note about these hardware wallets that come from sites that are not directly from the vendor.

There were a few reported cases of people buying the devices from resellers which contained a private key in the box. They all looked legit but the sellers were putting the keys in the box so that they could remotely access the contents of the key and steal the coins from the owners.
Please be careful when setting up and using these hardware wallets.

I definitely agree with you on there. The private keys are randomly generated on the device it self. If it contains private keys already setup, then they are not legitimate.

Thou it is not directed at us, we can confirm that our products are all factory security sealed, and no private keys are contained. Users will have to setup the device themselves from the trezor website at which point the device will randomly generate their keys.

      Cheers,

Just reset it. You can use 2nd hand if you do it right.

  • The safest way is to go to store in the USA and buy it direct from Wallace. Otherwise you risk someone tampering with it at customs or even in the mail. Then when you transfer your $30 of bitcoin it will be stolen by the hackers!

  • Seriously guys, if you are storing any more than a fraction of a Bitcoin, don't skimp a few dollars on buying from the authentic site. I'm not saying the seller is not genuine, but you should always follow the general rules with crypto and that is: Don't make assumptions, never trust anyone and don't risk thousands of dollars to save a few. People have been ripped off with compromised devices, don't assume you wont be one of them.

    Over and out.
