OLA are now offering 50% off the first 10 rides upon new sign up for Perth users
UBER’s new competition in Perth (as soon, the rest of Australia) is wooing drivers with its 7.5% commission rate vs. UBER’s 28%
Other points:
1. Maximum discount is $15 (i.e. after the first $30, the full rate will be charged for any amount >$30) Discounted rate will be reflected in the fare estimate
2. No expiry date for the use of these 50% discount ride is listed (unlike previous promotions which had to be used within 7 days)
3. Upon using a referral code, referee will receive a $15 free ride
4. If you wish to use a referral code, make sure you enter it at the bottom of the sign-up pages after you enter your mobile number (there is no further opportunity to enter this after you click through that screen)
5. Your own referral code will be generated in your menu under “Refer & Earn” after your first ride; before this, there will not be a “Refer & Earn” option
My experience with OLA Cabs Perth over the last 5 days:
1. Decent availability within 5 km of the CBD
2. No availability in some suburbs further out from the CBD (e.g I couldn’t get one from North Fremantle all week)
3. Wait times generally greater than UBER (sometimes >10mins but hopefully this will improve as driver numbers increase)
4. No surge charging thus far
5. KM ($1/KM) and Time (0.35c/min) charges identical to UBER
6. IOS App style is similar to the older uber app, where the rider could move the pin manually on a map for their pickup point
I've tried to use them multiple times from the Northern Suburbs, but never any available.
Also they don't do airport pickups.
The one time I did get one to accept a job in the city, it never showed. After 20 minutes I called and the driver, and he said he had another job.
Instead of Wooing customers they should be wooing more drivers.
