Yep, nice price on a very good drive. I got one about 6-8months ago for $157 with a $30 coupon I found, which I thought was an outstanding deal at the time…this is great though! :)
FWIW, I'm very happy with mine, very svelte in dimensions for a 3.5" and the AC adapter is a light & relatively compact switchmode job, not a brick; so it's not a burden to carry. Sure it's not a 2.5" USB powered drive, but it's twice the capacity of the biggest of that genre! ;)
Just bought one. Can confirm Melbourne Elizabeth Street store has stock. Wasn't out on display but they had some out back.
Also, 3 year warranty with this drive and AC plug has the detachable pins so you can put overseas plugs on instead (not included).
a good deal for a WD 2TB - smooth and sexy
MSY had a special a few weeks back for 2TB external HDD - $110
I bought it because I needed the space
It works fine but not as sexy as this WD :)Also North Sydney got plenty in stock.
Would be awesome if it was USB 3.0
may i know what is the rpm for this WD? also what is the correct model no? WDAU2000BK? i cant find this on official website.
It will most likely be 5400, in the interests of cooling & ultimate longevity…however, it is irrelevant for two reasons, 1. the main bottleneck will be the USB 2.0 interface; and 2. you can't pull the drives out of these for a desktop, the USB connection is fixed to the drive itself! ;)
Someone has rip the case opened(Other size HDD but same case I think) and can use the HDD with SATA..
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1030772&p…EDIT : Should be this WDBAAU0020HBK .. 7200RPM.. hmmm..
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=260Wow, that's good to know! Just after I got mine I did some research that suggested it was like the 2.5" variants, but I wasn't too worried coz I actually wanted a USB storage device…nice to know I might have the option of stripping it out for an internal! :)
I'd be very surprised if they put a dedicated 7200rpm drive in a USB2.0 case though, especially one with negligible ventilation for cooling…hmmm from me on that too! ;)
MSY have 2Tb Samsung G3's for $125 now.
Dick Smith Barrack St refused to price match.
The sales guy told me it's $50 below cost price while their listing price is $169. What a bad excuse.
I guess Dick Smith are doing deals in their way that profit deal, no profit no deal :D^ wow really?…..i was gonna head down to dse for pricematch this week as its so much closer than ow
http://dicksmith.com.au/help/price-promise-content
"and if u find a lower advertised price within 14 days of purchase date, we will beat that price"
so basically buy it for 170 bring in ow ad, get refund! eff that
i might just get a usb dock and internal hdd then
