JB Hi-Fi Refusing to Pricematch Umart

Apparently Umart are a "factory outlet", so they refused to pricematch on Logitech 533 headphones. Might try another store and see what they say.

    Why not shop at Umart?

I have a JBHifi gift card I want to get rid of.

    • Why the negatives? Is it wrong to want to use a gift card JB gave me as part of a phone plan deal?

  • +6

Ask them where on this page it says they don't match factory outlets.

  • Is umart an authorised Logitech reseller?

  • How much was uMart?

    • JB $219, umart $145

    Ok

I've tried to price match Officeworks to JB for a Samsung tablet and they told me they couldn't price match because "Officeworks repair the tablets themselves, not send them back to Samsung like JB do" - contacted Officeworks and they were quite positive they had no one qualified that could repair them in store…………….moral of the story is JB sales staff will make anything up to get that commission.

    • You should get that in writing.

I just went to Officeworks instead and bought it there :P - Luckily they were next door to each other!

          That’s the way.

    • Yeah officeworks fix nothing in house…straight back to manufacturer no questions asked … they are the best for warranty claims in my experience so far .. straight swop like for like with minimal fuss…JB make you feel like their doing you a favour and sometimes just your luck who you get… fitbit broke when a forced update failed had a fight for them to exchange… only bought the weekend before..ended up claiming direct from fitbit and then exchanging it at another store a few weeks later on principal… wasn't so bad the second time.

I am thinking Umart may not be authorised reseller (may be selling direct import goods), hence the price descrepancy. It is easy to sell JBHIFI store credit for close to what it is worth on gumtree or eBay and then buy headphones at Umart. My son was given $300 worth of Harvey Norman vouchers and we sold for $290 as the had amazing deal on the Xbox package he wanted at JBHIFI.

From JB website Price Match - A JB Deal applies to identical products in stock at both the competitor and the relevant JB Hi-Fi store at the time of price matching. The competitor price must be verified by JB Hi-Fi. Online price comparisons must include any delivery costs. Exclusions apply for cash back offers and store credits, bonus and bundled promotions, coupon promotions, grey or direct import products not sold through an authorised Australian reseller, commercial orders, competitor advertising errors, and competitor clearance products or products with limited or restricted quantities.

    • I might give that a try. BTW, other than eBay ratings etc, how does the buyer have confidence that the value is as stated?

      • The buyer pays with PayPal and if item isn't as stated they would apply for refund. I would only sell to buyers with good feedback rating. I've sold a few Myer $100 gift cards, a Sussan credit receipt, Harvey Norman Gift Cards.

Paypal seller protection doesn't apply to digital goods or gift cards, so you are taking a heavy risk

        • @Quantumcat: Thanks for pointing that out, as mentioned I've sold a few to ebayers with good feedback rating. There is a risk that a buyer could say the card wasn't valid and apply for a refund.

        • @Goldcoater: Do you read all the feedback for potential buyers? You can't leave negative feedback for buyers, so can't rely on the percentage. Also, sellers may leave feedback before getting a problem with a buyer (claim could occur months later) so there would be nice feedback for that transaction even though the seller had big problems

    • They just have different marketing strategies.

      Umart = “Everyday Low Pricing”
      JB/Harvey Norman/Office Works - “Dynamic Pricing Strategy”

      See http://independentretailer.com/2016/08/18/deep-discounts-or-…

9 times out of 10 you'll get the best price at Umart but occasionally the others will crush them on a single item e.g. iPads

Hmmm… I've price matched to JB with MSY and the guy was like - 'what's that' and he looked like he didn't give a sh*t. Anyways managed to price match the item, because it wasn't an online store.

    Thats their choice I guess.

  • Why dont you buy it a umart then?

    • +2

He has a JBhifi gift card to use up…

  • have you tried a different JB or even different manager, JBs policy might not exclude that item or shop but that doesn't stop the individuals working there from having a bad day or trying to make some quota or something that's making them flat refuse all price matches in hopes you'll go away and not push it

  • Call ahead and ask, record the call, call bs on whoever says no. Or just sell the gift card as others say, i kinda dislike jb hifi, they are rarely the cheapest and price matching + delivery applied to a store around the corner last time I went (I showed the price online).

Price matching is entirely up to the retailer.
Why not just buy from Umart?
If not just accept JB HiFi's price.
Especially since you have a gift card.
After all its not costing you anything

  • Go to a different store, I have had JB hifi happy to match MSY and umart here in QLD.

  • Try a different store.

Post on JB facebook page for an 'official' reply to your situation.
