Ideas for Home Security Camera

Hello my fella OZ Bargainers,

Need another suggestions for cheap Home Security Camera around the house.

I need atleast 5 cameras for the home security. Please suggest which is cheap and good ones to buy.

How much am i looking at installation and purchase of camera?

Is it better of that i ask these people to come and do everything for me as they bring their cameras and install it ( got quotes $1,700 which i think is expensive) for me or shall i buy the camera myself and put it on airtasker for someone to install.

So wanting to buy my own cameras and ask someone from airtasker to install it for me as I feel like DIY would be hard.

Please provide ideas on where can i buy the cheap and good cameras and which product is good. I want to buy cameras that has warranty for at least 2 years. Is wireless one better or wired one? What minimum mp shall i have so the pictures are clear.

P.S. I dont have any knowledge on home security cameras.

Thank you

I'd consider Arlo but you need to recharge the batteries ever so often.
    Easy to DIY.

depends where you're planning to put the cameras. If they are outside you can get the solar panels and plug it in and battery stays charged
alternatively if indoors, i'm sure you can just wire a micro usb cable to the unit

arlo is very diy'able, without needing anyone else to install so you can save quite a bit of $$ from labour
setup is literally a few minutes

arlo pro is 720p while pro2 is 1080p
having seen the quality of the 720p i think it's pretty sufficient

  • Cheap doesn't fit with NEEDing home security. You either need it and therefore should be getting something decent and therefore higher cost, or you want some additional security, and something cheaper will do.

I just picked up the Aldi 8 camera kit for $299. Mainly becuase our house isn't exactly fort knox and has several entry doors, garage doors and a bunch of windows that are not easy to deadlock. It also has a side laneway adding an extra access point I figure the cameras will be a deterrent, rather than for evidence.

No such thing as cheap CCTV system. Your NVR spec is the most important component of the whole sysytem. Read this to get a better understanding and don’t be fooled by the dodgy sale claims

Next important part is your internet speed. Suggest you have NBN on the 50mb tier plan. Recommended internet speed required is 25mb which will be half of your plan.

Stick with the brands that specialise in CCTV like Hikivision, Bosch, Honeywell, Samsung (all industrial grade).

Do not buy swann!! I would say don’t buy Home grade cctv cause they don’t last long or aren’t very clear unless your literally in front of it.
Mate Swann setup of 4 cameras only 1 works now after 1 year. Car got broken into as well and could barely make out the offender car model parked on the road at night.

  • Interested in this topic too, given the recent spade of home invasions…

  • +1 on the Arlo system. It's 2 way communication and motion sensor is just important. The recording resolution is great too. Though I find the monthly storage fee a bit off.

  • the minimum i would use is a hikivison system

typically price in Syd is $1,500 for 4 x cams + nvr w/ 2tb plus all the rj45 run

    anything less is trash

  • Interested in this as well.
    Though my criteria are:
    - an outdoor camera. I can place on the balcony ceiling, so doesn't need to be waterproof.
    - 1 to 3 cameras (2 is ideal)
    - must have decent focus 15-20m
