[ACT] Free Insect Ice Cream at ANU (28/2 & 2/3) and Garema Place (1/3)

160

There are four ice creams on the menu: Scurry Berry with blueberry, raspberry and a mix of insects, Choc Hopper with chocolate and grasshopper chunks, Strawberries and Swirls which has strawberries with cream and meal-worm swirls, and Nutritious Neopolitan with critters mixed into strawberry, chocolate and vanilla.

The giveaway is to highlight insects as a sustainable protein source and meat alternative, with many around the world already incorporating bugs into their diet.

The ice cream pop up will be at ANU on Wednesday, February 28 and Friday, March 2 10am-5pm, and in Garema Place on Thursday, March 1 from 10am-6pm.

I doubt I'll ever be that desperate. I hope at the 2 venues they are making it very clear to punters that the insects are real. Plus-voting for OP's courage in posting something so hideous.

Interesting. If anything this has brought primal aversion to insects to the fore. I know of a project trying to promote ground up crickets (or was it grasshoppers) as protein meal. If nobody told you the protein was insect origin until after would you still go yuk? Also do people know that flour and coffee will have some bug parts (unavoidable despite the best screening)?

I admit I'm not sure I'd try this or the fried insects in SEA. Maybe I'll wait for lab grown meat.

My cats can endorse flies and moths as a valid food source.

And I'm sure sometimes they offer you a portion.

      • +1

Yeah, they often leave us a "gift" in the shower of a chewed up moth. I suspect the nutrition value comes second to the hunt.

  • Bugs in ice cream..? I'll stick to my Tide Pods thanks.

Just had some Choc Hopper. Quite good. The grasshoppers were quite dry and crispy but without a particularly strong taste.
