How Long Should an iPad Battery Last?

Hello OzBarginers,

Hoping this community can shed some light.

Bought an iPad Air 128GB in January 2015.
Device has been used every day since for about 6-8 hours.
Battery now does a full charge but will not last for an hour.
Checking the battery health using an App indicates that it is at 17%.

Should the battery have degraded so much over just 3 years?
Is there anything I can do to re-charge the battery?…I wouldn't think so.
what is my next step??

Thank you all.

The battery is 3 years old and used daily for 1000+ days with 1000+ charge cycles. The battery is worn out and needs to be replaced. There is nothing you can do to make it last longer. Anything that is suggested with merely increase the duration

    • Lol have a first gen ipad and the battery lasts over 3 hours still maybe a update stuffed it?

Or maybe some app is draining the battery.

As long as you don't update

use it less, and the battery will last

Charge it up in the microwave at full power.

  • my ipad is over 3 years old and can still be used for 6 - 8 hours screen time and doesn't drain that much on stand by. Have you been charging on an aftermarket charger? you may need a battery replacement

  • I have an iPad 2 that I bought in 2011 I think. Youtubing still gives me 5-6 hrs.

Don't know what you're doing with that iPad, but if you really were using it everyday for that much then that seems about right.

Apparently lithium batteries last between 400-1200 charge cycles. Charging everyday for 3 years is probably over 1k cycles. You should just replace the battery, or permanently attach it to a powerbank if you need it badly
