Seeking advice for refund procedure

Hi all,

I would like to seek advice on initiating refund for a purchase for non delivery.
I have contacted AusPost and they have opened a case on the parcel.
Auspost has also advise me to seek refund for my purchase.

My question is should I initiate the refund from the store website or straight to paypal? I paid via paypal.
If I do it through store website, will i get my money back into my bank account or paypal account?

Update #1:
26/02/2018 10:00am : Dispute has been raised via support system
28/02/2018 10:00am : Dispute has been raise via paypal

Cheers,

  • Shouldn't you wait for the result of the Australia Post investigation?

I would say Store, then PayPal (then bank?)

Refunds are usually processed back to the same method of payment.

    • The nice chap on the phone said he will contact the store owner to start the process of compensation for lost parcel.
As such, he has advised me to initiate the refund process.

      • You would think that would instigate a refund to you automatically, but you never know I suppose.

        • hopefully, refund is straight forward. * finger crossed *

this is the first time i encounter non-delivery for shopping online.
not sure if it is fortunate that i paid extra for insurance.

        • @sakewasabi: insurance claims on postage are paid to the sender so you gained nothing by paying extra

        • @Quantumcat: paid a small fee for it. but lesson learned :(

      • The nice chap on the phone said…

"…not our problems so fook off."

Standard operating procedure for AusPost, they don't care.

        • oh well…. at least he opened a case for me

        • @sakewasabi:
…and will be closed shortly, if not already.

They really don't give a rats.

No no, not all of it, just AusPost. The way it goes is:

          You buy item.
          Seller ships item.
          AusPost loses item.
          You complain to AusPost.
AusPost says "Eh, whatever. Talk to the seller, case closed."
          You contact seller.
          Seller goes "Christ, not again."
          Seller contacts AusPost.
AusPost promise to 'investigate'. (Pssst - 'investigate' is code for 'case closed'.)
          Months pass….
          More months pass….
You eventually get a refund from the seller after bad-mouthing seller & platform to everyone.
Seller gets negged by platform for 'poor performance'.
AusPost gives seller about $3.50 as 'compensation' for the $15 postage they paid, and $0 for the item.

          Everyone happy!

          Yay!

        • @D C:

It looks like i'm on my own now.

It has been 48hours since i left a message on their support system.
I have filed a dispute via paypal and will give it another 48hours before i escalate it to a claim via paypal.

Wish me luck in getting my money back :|

  • My question is should I initiate the refund from the store website or straight to paypal? I paid via paypal.

You should initiate the refund with the store.

If I do it through store website, will i get my money back into my bank account or paypal account?

It'll be refunded to the method of payment.

But why do you want a refund? Wouldn't you want them to send you a replacement product instead?

    • You should initiate the refund with the store.

Thanks. Will contact support now :)

But why do you want a refund? Wouldn't you want them to send you a replacement product instead?

i have waited over slightly a month for the product which should had been delivered a week ago according to their timeline. :(
unfortunately, i am going away hence a re-send is not an option for me.

      • unfortunately, i am going away hence a re-send is not an option for me.

        Are you not coming back?

        • I am.

From my calculation the product might be delivered while I away. There will be nobody home to receive the parcel.

Beside, I was looking forward to use the product in my coming trip.

Guess I’ll have to wait for another bargain to come around.

    do a paypal claim

    • i just initiated the refund from the store.
Will wait for the support's reply before going to paypal.

i'm just not sure if i went straight to paypal will there be a negative impact to the store.
the least i can do is to give the store an opportunity to set things straight?

      • Better to do it through PayPal. They will likely stuff you around for long enough that it becomes too late to start a PayPal claim.

        • you might be right. it has been 24hours since i left them a message on their system.

will contact paypal tomorrow morning if i don't hear from them.

do you know what is the cut off period to claim refund from paypal? 90days?

        • @sakewasabi: I think it got extended to 180 days, but better not to leave it to the last minute. Best of luck!

        • @Quantumcat:

thanks!!! will update how it goes

  • How did it go? Same thing is happening to me…

i'm still waiting for their outcome. They said it will take 5-7 business day.

Today its the 6th business day and still no reply from them.
I'll wait till Wednesday before I escalate the dispute on paypal.

      Good luck with your refund

  • hm.. not sure why i cannot edit the original post.. but here is an update.

14/03/2018 : Store finally agreed to a refund. Will wait for the refund transaction to complete before i marked it as resolved.

  • Update #4

15/03/2018 : Refund appeared in PayPal Summary. But I have nothing listed on my bank account.

Anyone knows when the refund from paypal will be reflected on my bank account?

    • Doesn't it stay in your Paypal account available for use rather than going back to the bank, unless you initiate a transfer, with costs?

      • Update #5

okies finally got official statement from paypal

"Your seller has issued a refund of $xx AUD and this case has been closed. To view the status of this refund, simply log in to your PayPal account and go to your transaction history.

The refund will be credited to your PayPal account. If you paid with a card, the refund will be credited to your card. It may take up to 30 days for the refund to appear on your card statement."

Thanks everyone. hopefully this will be sort of a guide for refund to other users.

    Update #6

20/03/2018 : Got my refund completed into my bank account

Overall, it was much of a hassle to get refunded. Just needed to wait which is a little bit annoying.
But i'm all happy that this has been resolved which minimum issues.
