Wild Wood Task Lamp (Arctic White - More Colours Available) - $24.99 + Postage (Free Postage with Club Catch) @ Catch

130

I found these Wild Wood Lamps when I went to use my "The Home" promo offer and they are phenomenal. I bought some (one as a study lamp and the rest as bedsides) and they arrived on Friday and I am so happy with them - even better than expected! They are top quality; tall and extremely well made. I don't know why they're so cheap (reduced from $149.95)! I ended up paying around $70 for four (including Club Catch).

They're not advertised/ described very well so I Googled them to discover they weigh 4.5 kg (which I found on other websites that sell them for much more) and after reading a couple of reviews, I decided to buy (also found some better photos of them). They came with an extra metal sprocket/ handle which is inserted inside the shade to manoeuvre it side to side, and up and down, without having to touch the shade (like an old Architect's lamp). This lamp is good enough for a professional Architect, Artist or avid reader.

They were packaged individually which I was impressed with, but the boxes they are actually presented in are so big and heavy that they really have no choice (the design of the box is very nice, too). The packaging alone weighs an extra couple of kilos, with what looks to be a recycled carboard, thermoformed interior (no polystyrene). I can safely state that this is a premium Designer lamp. Every aspect has been considered, including the instructions. I like them so much I want to buy them in black, charcoal, blue and green, too. I won't but I want to.

Not sure how long they'll be at this price but everywhere else, they sell for upwards of $100.

Please note: They require very small E27 globes (I got the energy saving kind). I bought some at Bunnings for $6.90 or so (and later spotted them at Woolworths for $6.50). I bought the 8W variety which translates to 25W and it is more than adequate (maximum allowed is 12W/40W) which also offers good lighting. Also, take care when removing them from the box as the hinges are not tightened.

  • What’s the normal price?

    • It says they've been reduced from $149.95 on the Catch website.

You might receive a "Welcome to Catch 25% off" promo offer if you sign up for the first time as my sister did.

    +1 for your comprehensive post!

      Thanks :)

  • How much is postage? Or is it better to join club for a month?

    • I remember it was around $9 to send one and it went up to around $25 to send four. Either way, better to join Club Catch.

    • I noticed deals had the same price but shipping was the clencher for me (although I don't know how much living social charges for shipping).

Shame it's a cable switch. Much prefer a lamp with a switch somewhere practical on the lamp, like an angelpoise.

    • +1

Cable switch is a pain in the butt.

      • Generally speaking they don't seem to make lamps nowadays with the switch in a useful place.

    • Yes, I thought the same thing. I suppose they designed it this way allowing for bedside lamp scenarios.

    • The Gooseneck version is quite nice, too. I'm glad she waited, it pays to shop around.

Became a club catch member to get free postage, turns out its minimum $50 spend. Now I gotta buy 3 of these :/

    • Hehe. Well, I say go for it. These are a bargain. By the way, the next comment after yours is from someone who bought two and a bottle of hot sauce to get them over the $50 mark. Could that be an option?

      • +1

Yeah I only needed one lamp, so ended up buying a spare. I did see the hot sauce but ended up getting some turtle wax leather conditioner that I also needed. Just got a conformation that it will all arrive tomorrow. Hopefully the lamps turn out to be as good as OP’s review.

        • I'm the OP. Leave a comment about what you think of them when they arrive.

Thanks OP, we bought 2 lamps & a bottle of hot sauce to get over the $50 club catch threshold.

Nice move! I'll keep that in mind if I need a low priced item in future and receive some kind of offer which has a minimum spend. Love hot sauce. :)
