Frozen Berries Fibre Discrepancy

Can anyone please explain how different frozen berry brands, all apparently containing only 100% frozen berries, would have completely different fibre content? Are some brands presenting incorrect nutrition facts on the packet, or can berries really vary this much?

Example for frozen raspberries:

Coles brand: 1.3g fibre per 100g
Creative Gourmet: 6.1g per 100g

Makes a big difference if you’re calculating net carbs.

Thanks.

        Whoooosh

Ongoing joke where people come to OzBargain for advice unrelated to bargains. Normally really stupid people who say things like they were assualted in the carpark, haven't gone to the police and don't know what to do.

Advice is related to getting best price without sacrificing nutrition. Bargain berries.

    • Only shows a config page. Same with wayback machine. Wish to sum up the article for us?

  • or can berries really vary this much?

Different types or grades or berries or maybe more 'water' added to the mix etc.

Buy one of each and compare the contents.

    • If it is 100% berries shouldn't there be no added water? Or maybe there's some sort of liquid waste from processing berries they can add so technically it is berries and can still be 100% berry.

      • ok not 'water' but berry juice then ;)

Depends how much human faeces they use in China. One farmer may use less or more than another farmer

  • I'd go with the variety type of raspberries. Alot of different types that even fruit different times of the year, different fruit size and colour.

  • The cheaper supermarket brand ones have the least fibre, so maybe they’re just using the crappiest berries at the end of the season. Just didn’t think fibre content would change that much. Guess you get what you pay for.

That would be correct. Many homebranded products are using low quality ingredients to minimise costs and keep the price down. E.g. flour with low grade wheat.

  • yeah, i noticed that with rapsberries as well, woolworths raspberries have next to no fibre whereas aldi raspberries claim 5+g.

i would take what is written on the nutrition label with a pinch of salt

stop counting carbs and just eat the things …

      with a pinch of salt

      Also contains no fibre

      • The nutritional label itself might have some, especially fibre in it if cardboard and eaten with a pinch of salt.

    • If only you could eat whatever you wanted with no downsides.
